Will "comments" hurt my site?

Hi all,My site has been live for two or three weeks now. Over the last two days I have been receiving various comments on my pages originating from .pl domains. They are in broken English and the content doesn't make sense anyway. For example they will say something like "I have been following your site for a long time now.....blah blah" or "I've just rediscovered your blog following a long absense...." which is obviously impossible seeing as its a brand new site. It looks like its someone just spamming or soemthing like that. Just wondered if allowing such comments onto the site would hurt my site in any way? I mean do comments have to be relevent/genuine when it comes to links etc? Thanks

Bad comments serve no purpose whatsoever. Genuine users might abandon your site if you keep these spammy comments. Why? They might think that you really don't care about them (genuine users) and just do it for the money.

So, comments should only be visible to the public AFTER you have reviewed them. There should be an option for this.

Thanks for the reply. Was thinking the same. I haven't allowed the comments onto the site. Just seemed strange that all comments came on the same day but from different .pl domainsThanks

Try changing to a more complex captcha - that can help cut down on the amount of spam.
Spam comments are always a problem and the only certain way to be spam-free is to approve all comments yourself.

As a general rule I block all comments that have a link in, unless the link is relevant and the comment makes sense.

After Scrape-box comments make spammy and more spammy. Now you must have to choose just relevant blogs for comments and PR of that blogs must be higher if you want quality. No general comments allowed. Comment must be topic related and genuine if you really want some thing extra.

One thing you want to avoid is approving those comments. I've found once you start approving them, it opens the door to be bombarded by them. The last thing you want is to take a week away from your site and come back to 100+ comments that don't make any sense at all.

On the other hand...if you have quite a bit of comments on your site that are legit, I'd recommend getting the SEO Super Comments plugin for wordpress. It's pretty awesome and will generate SEO traffic via your comments (if you have a lot of comments).

Comment doesn't affect your site because you are the person to decide whether publish that comment or not. If its valuable means add on your site otherwise just remove spam contents.

The best way to avoid spam is to use captcha also you can put the setting for future comment to be in moderator mode. So, that you can check and publish them according to your niche. secondly avoid any comment links on your website because it spread some link juice over the others website. Also don't allow more that 100 comment on any post. So it means only choose valid and genuine comment. The commenter can also be your daily visitor. so choose wisely and correctly to make stand your website with in crowed.

    Thanks
