It makes plenty of sense to me. While G is very popular, lots of users use the G bar. When Chrome will get the promised toolbar, there will be a much more accurate "Alexa ranking". Alexa is very popular in Asian countries in general and in India in particular, giving a false ranking to site accessed only by US people. However, with Chrome toolbar, supported by G., we finally get an accurate ranking. I'm afraid that Alexa's days are counted...
Are 100% sure this is going to happen? it would involve Google tracking every website and be rather scary, for everyone who uses chrome, alexa is completely optional, chrome "may" become the standard web browser so maybe not quite so optional for those who are not entirely computer literate.
There is a lot of threads on will Chrome kill this or not, come on it is still in beta, not impressive, plenty of bugs, no market share. I think this wouldn't happen in years. They need to survive the fierce market place of the browsers in the first place.
Chrome has already killed Alexa, and the police are chasing it right now to arrest it. Killing is bad, mmmkay.
Alexa is dead, long live Alexa - the site that gave us ranking so that we can charge unthinkable amount to advertisers who don't get their ROI. Chrome, yeah another browser from the gods. What they want? Keep track of every move we make online? In a not near distant future, facebook and google will know exactly what you ate for lunch and send you restaurant discount coupon for the dinner. Benefit to the human kind? You decide, I report
This is exactly what I fear, thats why I would rather than Fire Fox than Chrome and would rather hope Yahoo and MSN merge so that Google will not be so dominant in its field.
Alexa will probably be staying around, they are improving their diagnostics utilities every day, and they do provide nice graphs and charts useful for any webmaster.
Chrome is beta because it is a part of their development of their mobile/cell phone operating system. That explains why it is so basic in what it can do at the moment, their is a limit what cell/mobile phones can do. Only time will tell what direction it will go for PC use.
Chrome looks impressive at first, their features are good , also the anti-crash tabs are cool. Well , time will tell , as many say, newcity,
I really don't see that happening, although some people think that Alexa is pointless, it is still very popular and provides some good traffic graphs.
I think this is good. Google can offer a much better and more accurate service than Alexa. Hope Google is considering making this info public.
It doesnt have to be Chrome... I'm sure many of us install google toolbar on our firefox or IE... I bet that alone is more than the toolbars out there from alexa.
I haven't heard that Google will ever track websites, but the hell why not ? They track users why won't they track websites. If G starts to track websites they will defintly kill alexa, whether it is through G toolbar, or through Chrome. Few notes about Chrome : it i shaving a strugling beginning and the browsers market is TOO competetive, but eventually I expect Chrome to change internet browsing as we know it today.
no i dont thinke google is not starting such a service as alexa.. and alexa is not at all popular in asian countries esp india
