Will changing template affect SERPs

    Hi All,

I have a site listed pretty well in SERPs for its related keywords. I am thinking of changing the template to new design, but not sure if this change might affect the SERPs.

In the new template design, the redundant links to internal pages are reduced, would that be a problem?

If anyone has any idea, experience of such migration please do share it.

    Thanks in advance!

It really depends on how you have your template layed out etc etc.

For example if you have navigation links on the left of the page, and you change template to navigation on the right of the page, you will most likely see some sort of improvement for each particular page, due to the search engines actually reading your text first, rather then the navigation menu every time.

Reducing internal links could lower the results of those internal pages, but it depends, are you doing it to concentrate PR value to some of your other internal pages?

If so then it is probably a better option for you.

The navigation links should also be used towards your goals and consolidating PR and link value to the correct pages.

I think any time you make a change to a page it may effect SERPs. I have used a phrase in various positions on page. The closer that phrase is to the top the better it has ranked. It is not a critical phrase, one will search for, but it, but makes for good filler at times.

the template very definetly has a most powerfuyl impact on SERPS on any CMS

in the template you decide if a text
is H! or p or anything else
    the content of meta tags
if all text is valid html or invalid html code

you also decide the INLINE position of text and thus keywords relevant to SERPS

it surely makes a difference if keyword rich start paragraph is inline at the end of the page or starting from first line

it also depends whether you have in your template for all pages same meta description and/or title tag or a fully individualized meta tag content for each page

    btw
in the template you add your adsense and thus have an impact on CTR

hence KNOW exactly what you are doing
make a full back up in case you did without knowing and need to restor old situation later on to regain your current SERPS
