I was wondering if there might be any repercussions if a website changes their meta description seasonally with the mind set that it might help increase organic serp ctr.
i dont think changing the description tag will have that much of a difference in your rankings. you might gain/lose a few places depending on the competion of the keyword(s) your targetting but description tag dont carry much wait these days.
The only way the Description <meta> can affect your rankings is indirectly. That is, Google may demote a page to its Supplemental Index if the Description <meta> is too similar to the ones on other pages in your site. Pages in the Supplemental Index only rank for obscure search terms where the primary index isn't serving up many relevant pages. None of the major search engines use the Description <meta> for direct ranking analysis. On the other hand, keeping your Description <meta>s fresh and relevant may well help click-throughs when the text appears in the search results, so its just good practice to pay attention to them.
It shouldn't, but make a copy of your old meta tags just incase, if your comfortable with your rankings, and traffic your getting now, just make sure you make a copy of it incase it drops a little, but you should be okay, but then again its hard saying.
I put a new skin on my forum site, desc and h1 tags were different on the new skin. everything went supplemental,So i will strongly advice against changing tags, title or even anchor text which you have in links on other sites unless you have a pretty good reason for that.
