As Carl Icahn has waged a proxy battle to remove Yahoo’s board and has aligned himself with Microsoft to seal a deal and Yahoo annual shareholders meeting approaching near, will he get success ??

    Please share your thoughts...

eh, maybe. I don't think MS is willing to make a purchase at the price Yahoo wants. In addition, this new talk with AOL only makes things more complicated.

Aug 1st is the decision date, correct?

Icahn is a strategist... is in the win no matter the assumed outcome. He's interested in volatile markets and is pushing volatitliy with this proxy battle.. yahoo! is getting their personal feelings in the mix and Icahn is playing the cards. He's positioning himself for a win and he's favorited to get it..

I think Carl is facing some big challenges, his chances are getting bleak, Legg Mason Capital Management Inc. publicly announce their support for the current Yahoo board and they are one of the largest share holders of Yahoo. But from their announcements, it seemed that they favor a compromise with Carl in the board. Lots of twists and turns in Yahoo proxy battle.....

I don't think he will gain the trust.. he don't have any experience running internet business though.

He has been doing this with so many companies. There's more to his strategy than what meets the eye.

I think Icahn will probably end up losing.

Legg Mason pretty much said they favor the current board.

    Why?

The current board maintains Yahoo and CEO actually built Yahoo from the ground up. They know Yahoo like nobody else does and are making the best decisions to maximize shareholder value.

Icahn IMO doesn't know how to run an internet company and Microsoft couldn't do much with their search engine and resorted to trying to buy Yahoo!.

Yahoo has a decent search, where they're working on is monetizing that search. Adsense ads are better matched then Yahoo ads, but doesn't mean that Yahoo ad matching won't get better. Of course it will.

Microsoft and Icahn are actually at odds.

Icahn want's to make as much as he can from the premium.

Microsoft want's to get their hands on Yahoo for as little as they can.

They said they'll try to buy only the search if another board were to run Yahoo, do u think the search is going to be valued by Microsoft at the previous price (which Yahoo said is not enough to buy Yahoo) Microsoft made for the entire company?

I think shareholders will realize that they'll be way better off keeping the current board which Yahoo has and give it some time cause under its current management Yahoo's value and revenue is bound to increase tremendously, just like internet search and advertising market is increasing.

He didn't really lose, he didn't actually get what he wants but he won 3 seats in the new Yahoo board which gives him some leverage over Yahoo. he will still be out voted but from what I see the fight still continues. Microsoft bid hasn't ended and in fact a new Chapter may have just opened with Icahn and his nominees in the new board.
