    Hello all,

I often see debate about this issue from both sides. I am too new to this game to know the answer myself, so I thought a poll would help gain some sort of idea as the the general consencus of opinion here.

Deos buying links harm a site in the long term?

Would be keen to hear peoples opinion too.

Well if you keep on telling others about the links that you have bought then it can harm you i dont see any harm in buying any link otherwise . also buy a link from someone whos honest .

For me, buying links can't harm your site. unless you telling it to others like jhn2001 said...
Links must be relevant to your site

How about none of the above? I don't see how buying links could ever harm your site. At the most the links would be devalued, and only then if they're known to be a paid links.

The only possible harm that could happen is that your link will not be counted in the PR algorithm. You will still get traffic from it if it is a good relative link. The only way you will even have that problem is if someone turns you or the site you bought the link in for selling links. Just make sure the link will help your site traffic and you should be fine.

it really depends on your purpose on purchasing links. if you'll do it to manipulate your ranking then it might hurt, then if it's for the visitor's sake, it'll be fine though Google will be having a hard time to determine which is which

Agreed, the main reason not to do it in my opinion is the chance of losing your investment. If they text link you purchased no longer pass Pagerank or SEO weight than all your paying for is traffic at the cost of what they charge for that Pagerank text link.

It can hurt your site if the primary purpose of buying it is to manipulate your ranking just like what aira said.
