Microsoft has infrastructure and it can not be defeated by Google. EVER. Despite all that successes, Google is still very Internet-based, and there's only so many places you can expand with the Internet. M$, meanwhile, has its hands in everything. A slight hiccup in Internet commerce can send Google back to the dark ages, but Microsoft will just roll on as if nothing happen. You can't possibly compare the two companies. They aren't even in the same league, no matter waht their stock prices say.

I dont agree with you. Every online business will need advertising in some forms or the other and Big Google is providing best targetted advertising for any business for the lase 6 years. I believe Google could change shapes but it will LAST.;)

I am a google fan but not a big G bragger. But the graph of people connecting to internet is rising steadily and number of people buying online is also moving upward. E-commerce is still in its infancy and there is a long long way to go.

    Well...how bout this?

All MSN has to do is undercut Google. Set up an advertising scheme that is cheaper for the advertisers and makes more money for the sites hosting the ads than Adsense. THEN you will see a shift of traffic as any surfers that click on MSN ads from SERPS in G will be redirected to MSN's advertisers. MSN will start making money (thought at a lower profit margin) off of any user who is using the G* search engine.

That's what G is doing now to MSN. People do a search on MSN and Google makes money off Adsense on those sites. If a big company like M* decides to undercut G with an Adsense style program any success that Google achieves will result in money in MSN's pocket.

Make cents? A big boy like M* can afford to do something like this merely by subsidizing it via other aspects of the company. I imagine it's only a question of time till they figure it out.

If there's one thing that Microsoft is good at...it's copying (or sometimes stealing) other companies technology and making it more profitable. Dont' forget the old days and all the old lawsuits.

Cecil... you are wrong about MSN starting such service.... You said " Set up an advertising scheme that is cheaper for the advertisers and makes more money for the sites hosting the ads than Adsense. "

how can MSN offer such service where advertisers pay less and publishers earn more.. where is the extra cash coming from. obviously MS wont pay the publishers from their own pocket...

so think before u start typing... u are contradicting yourself.

jainischalverma, it is possible, but microsoft's reveneu will be smaller by this... but maybe this is price of taking lead in e-advertising. Dont' forget that. ;)

It might be your opinion.. but I politely disagree. MS can lead in different other fields but in advertising area, Google has beaten MS hands down and MS would need a miracle or some kind of evil strategy ( which MS always has ) to beat Google.

I guess only time will tell. :)

I was reading this the other day, and the article about Yahoo partnering with Microsoft....

I think I've got to agree that unless Google actually does have a OS hidden there at Mountain View, then they may be in trouble.
