Google Analytics only records hits that come from javascript-enabled clients. Furthermore it depends heavily on cookies. So users who have disabled those things (or requests for which Javascript is irrelevant, like images and PDFs) are not counted. On the other hand, Google constantly updates its analysis methods to take into account new crawlers, technologies, and so on. AWstats records every single hit (unless it was swallowed by a proxy server) so it will show higher numbers. But it tends to fall out of step with emerging changes in the web environment. Each has its pluses and minuses. Fundamentally, the only thing you can really take away from either one is a sense of trends ("I am getting 10% more traffic than before"). Trying to read too much from the absolute numbers ("I had 4127 visitors today") is foolishness because they are never going to be anywhere near accurate.
sorry, maybe my question wasnt written well enough... what I am trying to establish, is whether AW Stats will actually show any clicks that may have originated via an Adwords listing. Then, AW Stats shows referring keywords used on search engines.....so if a search is made on one of the phrases shown, but the user clicked on an Adwords listing [as opposed to natural listings] will it still show in this list, or does the AW Stats 'keywords used' list exclude anything coming via Adwords... phewww. hope i have explained this reasonably coherently... thanks.
somehow i am not comfortable with AW GA is good but the interface is quite confusing Try getclicky, it is very good and gives all the details that you are looking for
