Will AdSense Work well on Forums?

I have a brand new gaming idea I'm starting up, running the whole works! Blog, Forums, main page with content, etc and I'm looking to run some ads on the pages. I know DP runs AdSense, but I'm not sure of the figures they make with PPC on forums.

I'm wondering if anybody has experience with PPC on forums, and how AdSense works

I think, that people do not click on ads when they visit a forum.

Yeah that's what worried me, I figured my PPC would be way down. I could always try CPM or private advertising, it's just that AdSense is so much easier.

the problem with adsense on forums is that there are a lot of returning visitors which are ads blind.

you will probably get a very low ctr.

It will generate income, but not as much as a normal website or a blog will do.

It really depends on your user base. If the ads shown are relevant, which is most times the case with Adsense, then you should have a fairly decent CTR. I think that Adsense works the best on niche-based forums though. The people in these types of forum are more privy to click on your ads because they have a specific interest. On webmaster forums, you get a melting pot, so there are some people looking for info of site design and others on affiliate programs. It's so widely varied that the only real way to find out what chance you have with Adsense is to just try it.

Our clients do better with a service like CJ.com over Adsense on forums. Instead of seeing random adverts, they see the same advert for a bit. They just change it every so often. The percentages on clicks vs views is too low on forums and will effect what adverts show on your site. With CJ, percentages really don;t come into play.

It is going to depend on how much traffic the forum gets, how much is new/anyomous vs returning members, and what those people are looking for.

I run a forum that does pretty well with Adsense. The majority of traffic is from anonymous visitors finding information in the forum from search engines. I dont even display ads to members (ctr is horrendously low for members).

I also combine Adsense with Kontera (you could also Adsense with other InText ads like Chitika) and that doubles the earnings.

Try it out for a month or so and then switch to something else if something better comes along, like private ads.

You need to take the best example and copy it (ad placement wise). The best example is Here! I think the best ad they have is the first post rotator. I find myself clicking on those ads even though im a returning visitor daily. This is because the ad fully matches the colors of the site and blends in with the post.
