Hi All, i have a site which is just under 5 years old , had many changes blah, blah ... only recently Jan 06, i have realised that my site was way down on the google chart, way down ... so i have invested lots of time and money on quality links to my site and changing the header/tags/meta bits. The site is really plain and simple and the front page has very little optimised text on, i am working on a new site with key rich text, over 20 pages dedicated to my subject, easy to navigate etc... NOWs the 1,000,000 dollar question, will goo*** drop my places if i replace the site? also recently .... yesterday we had to move the site to another provider, again will this damage me! - look forward to your replys. PS> i know one thing, geting links from PR9 and PR8 pages has really helped me JUMP up the scale - today my site is on 3rd page of goo*** and climbing!!!
I believe Google doesn't rank sites lower just because they've changed. You should take care of maintaining the keywords that have helped you rank so high, though. If you (have to) change your URI, use a 301 redirect and it won't hurt your ranking much.
Hi DXL - thanks for the reply - i'm fairly new to this can you tell me waht URI is and about the 301 redirect? - sorry for being a newbie!?.>
URI is a Uniform Resource Identifier, a string that identifies a resource, e.g. a webpage. Example: http://www.google.com/search?q=foo A 301 redirect is called after a certain response of a webserver to a request, 301 Moved Permanently. If a webserver serves this text, it forces the browser to go to another webpage where it can find the requested file. If you use a 301 redirect, opposed to a redirect written in HTML or JavaScript, Google will count any link to the page as a link to the page it redirects to.
