Will A PR4 Backlink From An Irrelevant-Content Website Be Good?

    Hi there,

I've got a PR4 celebrity website and was wondering if I placed a backlink to one of my other websites (related to making money online), would the money website gain much from the search engines? I'm just wondering as the celebrity website isn't really related at all to my money website.

Also, could it damage the PageRank of the celebrity website, as it is linking to other, non-related websites?

Another question - from the above PR4 backlink, would the search engines prefer the money site to be linked from a site related to money? Or would it prefer it if the site that links to the money site isn't related to money?
Hope this last question makes sense!

    Thanks for any help.
    Matt

There's no simple answer to this one. You _might_ get a penalty on the celeb site, especially these days when Google is on the hunt for paid links. I think it's a 90% chance you won't get penalized though - if anything the link will just be discounted.

As for the last question, the engines definitely prefer links from sites in the same niche.

Celebs live to make money ;)

There is no black and white answer to this. While sticking to related links would be advised, many sites often link to a site not related to their theme. It isn't wrong, unless you link to a viagra site or something like that.

Do not exactly look at it from the point of Page Rank. Would your visitors gain something by visiting that site ? Is it a resource for your readers ? If yes, keep the link

    Thanks, reps given for that.

So do you think it would be beneficial to my money site if I have a PR4 back link from this celebrity site?

    Thanks again.

To be honest I am not so bothered about the celebrity website - I would rather try and improve my money site instead, which is why I'm thinking about the PR4 backlink.

    Thanks :)

Any high PR back link gives weight to the site.

in my opinion, everylink will help you to get better ranking but if the link is from a related site , it will help you more and more

But if it's from the same IP, it weighs less.

First off, a backlink from PR4 non related site will give some weight (PR juice) to the site you are linking, but it will be less weight than a backlink from PR4 related site.

Yes it will help. It will not help as much as a link back from a related PR4 site..

    Thanks

Related PR4 site = great weighting (5/5 score)
General PR4 site = good weighting (3/5 score)

Related PR4 site with same ip/c address = good weighting (3.5/5 score)
General PR4 site with same ip/c address = low weighting (1.75/5 score)

Either way they all count and help atleast a little :)

My ratings/scores arent exact, these are just my opinions based on months of SEO research. See them as rough guidelines :)

I have tried a very similar thing and links from my celeb sites with PR definitely helped my brand new sites get indexed quickly and helped with their PR.

That's correct. As in you are linking from a different domain that you own another that you own, on the same IP.

If someone else owns the domain then this isn't an issue.

How do they know that I'm using the same IP though? How do they define this?

    Thanks for the help.

In a short answer, yes, the link will help. However, as stated above, links from same IP, not as good ;-(
