Will a Facebook Fan Page work for your product?

So why become a fan of a product? I posted this question on Facebook. Here are few replies that I got back:
“Facebook is my mirror. I want people to know what I like. I become a fan of a product to show people why I like and support a particular product.”
“Hey, it’s the best way to spread a word around. I become fan of a product so that my friends can try it too.”

A Fan Page is an epidemic that will spread your product fast. This is not a fable, but an observation more inclined to succeed. According to a research done by social media management firm Vitrue, average click-through rates for wall posts is 6.49%, a figure higher than the average email or display ad campaign. Once you implement a Facebook Fan Page, all you will need is one fan and one click. Only one fan to support your brand and spread the news to over 200 million Facebook users spread over 30 languages. Imagine the possibilities! Instead of a generic process of promotion via emails, flyers, advertisements and billboards, you will be reaching out to millions of customers via a new tangent route: the Facebook Fan Page!

So how can you make Facebook Fan Page effective, productive, luring and to your advantage? Here are some ideas:

    * Introduce new products on your Fan Page. Your fans will try it and will post comments on it. You will not only get free advertisement, but also free reviews!
    * Provide coupons for your products. Or give away sample products for filling out surveys.. You are not only reaching out to your customers, but also getting their feedback.
    * Show exclusive news about your company on your fan site. Your fans will feel special and this will lead to more loyal fans.
    * Fan Page is a good place to show your fans how eco-friendly your company is. How about planting a tree for each fan? Or a donation to any of the go green organization for each fan?

    So what’s stopping you now?
Is it because you are still wary of Facebook fans? Well, contemplate on this fact: The Web research firm Hitwise reports that, overall, Facebook was the fifth-ranked Web site in terms of total market share of visits in January 2009. Furthermore, the time spent on Facebook has continued to increase and reached an average visit time of just over 21 minutes in January 2009 .

thx for info. totally agree with you. would like to add that there are some other powerful tools which can bring more traffic and boost sales on facebook. make use of Facebook applications. you can hire a programmer and order a custom app which will allow you to perform contests to your fans, arrange events, giveaways, etc.
at this stage, facebook is a limitless source of ideas and freedom. don't u think?

Additional to the cool things you wrote in your thread, I would set up an opt-in mailing list to collect emails so I would be able to send info outside Facebook.
