Let's say there are two websites with the exact same name, the only difference is one's a .com and one's a .info. In search engine results, will the .com site rank better than the .info simply because it's a .com or does it all depend on which site has more backlinks?
The TLD has nothing to do with the rankings...backlinks and age of the domain are much more important.
The .com is easier to remember and people often type .com after they type the domain name in. With other extensions, your domain has to be wither bookmarked by the user, or rank higher in the search engines to get visitors...!! BUT AIN'T .COM domains are all gone....!!
I've heard and there's some good evidence that says that .org domains rank the best... but that could be out of date by now.
there is nothing realation btwn rank and extension of domain.. but there is one think people dont searc .com or prefer... .info or any other..... i dont mean they dont search or dont prefer but stilll the searches and exit over .com are more then other extensions ! we can called human mantalitly :S
nope. http://www.lsfjsdafhdeslkfhksafhaslkf.com is available. They are still around...you just gotta work harder at finding good one's. What may not make sense today can be tomorrow's "mp3".
domain extension have significance for peoples not for SE and SEO, for humans the main important is .com
It doesnt matter what is the domain name of the site , it is important is to get more backlinks for the site. Submit your site to internet directories, forum, article directories, social bookmarking and press release
The extension of the domain makes no difference at all. However if you have a local TLD, you may not see it rank as high in another local market. There will be no difference in the coms market though.
Since you're asking about search engine rankings, and not about the human factor here, I'd say there's a .info will make a difference to .com in rankings because of the domain extension itself.
Extension wont matter to SEs but a .com is more easier to remember for some people and kinda more popular . Thats It .
It does not make any difference it depends on lots things but I'll list the most important of them for you 1. # backlinks 2. PR of the pages which link to you 3. Title Page of pages which link to you 4.the anchor text used in the link linking to you good luck
I agree that extensions don't matter, but a there is some gossip on a few of the Black Hat forums saying that Google may start adding a very small amount of weight to extensions in the future. This move doesn't make much sense to me, but the talk is out there. Its probably just some people trying to spread nonsense. As long as you have good backlinks from "good neighborhoods" you should be find. I would strongly suggest you don't do anything spammy with a .info because it would make sense for SE's to ban .infos quicker if they are into guestbook spamming / forum spamming. Also, if you want to appear more legit, register the domain for a longer period of time. Most throw away domains are only registered for a year.
