will a 301 kill my ranking?

I have a minisite, just 5 pages, and I would like to use a new domain for it. I could do a 301 redirect on each page and point it to the new domain. Would this kill my current rankings at MSN and Yahoo? Does anyone here have some experience with this? What would hapopen to my backlinks? What will happen to my PR? (site has 3 PR4 pages and 2 PR3 pages)

A 301 normally passes PR. I have no idea with MSN and Yahoo.

Like you I have a new site about your size which had already been indexed in Google. I moved and it and set up a 301 for it. Was surprised when it disappeared from Google for a couple of days. I was not monitoring SERPs in MSN and Yahoo.

Problem with this site is that it has a #1 spot at Yahoo and #5 spot at MSN. The domain I used for it was a junk domain I had lying around, so I would like to use a better one, but don't want to risk loosing my ranking

Here is what I would do: I would leave things like they are but rename your site
and then redirect the better domain name to it without even bothering whether it is in the search engines or not. Have like a logo on top with the new name and people will remember how to come back to your site and brand the new name.
Having all your pages redirect is a little risky even though you may not lose rankings ... but then again you may.
