Yeah... Agreed Tattoos.... BluRay is a registered Tm ... I saw some bluray names available but just decided that with so many open industries right now, that it would just be better to stay away.

thanks for the gift though... appreciated anyway
    :)

Yes, I agree that Blu-Ray is a registered trademark. Now go to Google and search "Blu Ray."

    The first position is http://www.blu-ray.com/

Go to the bottom of the page and you will read..

Just a few I registered. The field is still wide open...

    3DADULTTV.COM
    TELEVISAO3D.COM (portuguese for 3dtv)
    3DTVRECEIVER.COM
    WORLDCUPSOCCER3D.COM
COPAMUNDIAL3D.COM (spanish for world cup 3d)
    EUROCUP3D.COM
    CONCERTO3D.COM
    3DSPORTSONLINE.COM
    3DCLASSICMOVIES.COM
    PUBLICIDADE3D.COM ( portuguese 3d advertising)
    3DSURFMOVIES.COM
    LIVECAST3D.COM
    3DDRAMAS.COM
    3DWARMOVIES.COM
    3DCOMEDYMOVIES.COM
    3DADVENTUREMOVIES.COM
    3DMYSTERYMOVIES.COM
    3DWESTERNMOVIES.COM

and on and on..... just waiting for the industry to evolve to start monetizing these babies.. If you stick to registering technology related domains you're probably going to end up having TM issues. keep it generic and high volume search related.

I've registered about 25-30 3D-related domains in the past half year...all are .com's. If they go nowhere, I'll just drop them, but it would be crazy not to try it out. Be sure you do your research. I'm fairly certain that no manufacturer is going to care about making 3D tvs in plasma when there are superior display types out there. Do research :)

Also, know what people type..I dont know about you, but I don't search for "screens" on the internet when I look to buy a TV.

Espn will have it's own 3D channel soon: they have tested the product in college football for a couple of months now...

Hey Jack... i had 3dScaryScaryMovies.com on my 'Next Available' List ... been wanting that... Good Find!!!

... but let me give you a little tip ...
there's another one out there that you need to grab now (have to!)

3d Scary Movie .com ... last i looked, this was available
    .. best part ?

... i don't know if you saw, but the guys from the movie 'Jackass' are coming out with a 3d movie this year ..
... this seems like something RIGHT OUT OF THE WAYANS BROS strategy book .. .

... i was gonna scoop up 3dDScaryMovie.com just in case they made a movie
    ..
.. SCREW that TM garbage on a name like that, if there IS one .. that's a generic term... i'd fight that - cause that's not fair if something like that is not allowed.
    .. also

.. it locks up the power you now have in 3d Scary Movies.com
ALWAYS better to have the 'renditions' - than not... know what i mean

as far as the tm from above...
i really wish i understood the whole tm thing s a little better.

I mean, i COMPLETELY agree with you Janus on the whole thing... i just don't know what the actual line in the sand is...
... but i guess the bottom line for a domainer is
... are we able to SELL that name?

forget about the landing pages and what not .. i mean the actual domain name itself
.. do tm domain names sell?
(I'm asking only because i honestly don't know - not because i'm trying to sound condescending - we lose SO much tone in chat)

i know that right now, with such a wide open field in this 3d thing
... there's no reason to even go through the trouble of trying it ... don't need the headache.

.. although, i think i bought a tm domain with the 3d in it
.(is THAT still a tm that way?

    i had bought 3dCablevision.com

.. i was grabbing up cable names that day and just threw it in there. i guess i wasn't really thinking, but again - what actually is the tm rules and how does that change when addiing the 3d to it?
.. maybe i'll try to sell it to directTV and let them dangle it

    :)

    Hey DNWIRED
    ... Sweet names!!
Very Well done... how excited were you when you when you saw those little check marks appear next to those names when you were searching?
    hahaha

    (I know the feeling!)

    thnx

"Panasonic makes 3D HD official with VT25 plasma TV series"

"Sony, Samsung, LG, Toshiba and Vizio all announced 3D-compatible HDTVs at this year's CES, but Panasonic has made the most noise about the technology....
...this year it has finally announced a shipping date for its first 3D plasma TV.
    " ;)

As far as I'm aware, the only 3D capable TV with a release date is a Plasma.

Also, lately I have heard a few people mention some advancements in plasma technology that could revive consumer demand (mainly to do with massively reduced power consumption.. but I can't remember exact details).

    Cheers
    James

I have thought the same way for a long time, my issue with Plasma is burn in and I don't watch to much TV so plan on using it for a computer/media display. That's why I am looking at LCD. (OLED is too expensive ATM)

However, from what I have been told (and read) Plasma outshines LCD in bright conditions (and maybe OLED to, i'm not sure), which could make a differance when watching 3D during the day.
It is also cheaper because it has been around longer (but LCD is getting there).
As 3D has not yet been tested it the real world, it makes sense to provide a less expensive step for consumers to take to enter the 3D world.
    IMHO.

    Cheers

    Hey guys
... call me slow, or whatever...
This Article was published on January 7th and I'm just gettin wind of it now...

and I really hate to change the tone of such a great thread, but did anybody else happen to see this:
    http://www.techcrunch.com/2010/01/07/apple-domain-names/

Apple Seizes 16 Domains From One Guy

this goes back to what we discussing earlier, and the article really doesn't explain it all TOO much, but am I to assume that this guy with all the domain names bought these AFTER those products were trademarked or does anybody have the right to tm something years after and STILL have the right to take this dudes names, cause that's a bunch of garbage if that is the case.

I'm gonna go about my way believing that these were all bought AFTER the products were tm'd and released because it just doesn't make sense to me otherwise.

If somebody knows anything more on this news, please shed some light... and more importantly, how does the new 3d domain names relate to the tm laws?

As mentioned above, If I owned 3d scary movie.com, and the wayans brothers decided to make another STUPID movie - but this time in 3d - am I within my rights?.... o know 'scary Movie' is a little bit different because of the generic term, but I guess the point is still the same

    What gives here?

"Apple claimed Bijan was using in “bad faith” as he was forwarding them to pages that featured products which compete with Apple’s own. Bijan had registered the names between 2006 and 2009 at various times."

So yeah, they were registered afterward, and in bad faith.

Owning a domain like 3d scary movie seems pretty generic, so long as it remains a site about scary movies that are in 3D.
The moment you try to profit in anyway from the "Scary movie" movies, then you do so in bad faith. (Intending to profit off someone else name) Starting a site or blog about the movie "Scary movie" on that domain would be a no no.

I have a random (Non word) domain consisting of 4 letters. Turns out that these 4 letters are an acronym and were trademarked long before I got the domain.
Because my site has nothing to do with the trademark owners company and in no way causes any confusion, I feel pretty safe.
If I lured visitors to the site by adding information about the trademark owners products and then tried to profit from them visitors through ads, affiliates or whatever. They would more than likely come after me.

But I should point out... I am a plasterer, not a lawyer. So I could be (and often are), completely wrong ;)

    Cheers

    that's pretty funny...

    Ok....
    but....
    What IF....
    I own 3dScaryMovie ...
    now...
and I go about my way for the next year promoting 3d scarymovies...
    Cool...ok...
    but THEN....
    3dScaryMovie comes out
    ... The wayans brothers movie
... and I want to add this movie to my existing 3d scary movie library....
... what do u think happens then?

a bit tricky i guess, and yes, probably rare, but a fun question to ask regardless

    :)

I've never really thought of investing in bulk domain names like some of you have. There is a lot of potential for profit there. There are so many options and ways to capitalize. :)

Yes, I agree that 3D is the next generation hype, especially related to movies. After Avatar I think we will see many more 3D movies that will try to live up to Avatar.

If that will be the case I think gaming, mobile and TV applications will follow.

    **Edit

By the way, I just ran a small search and managed to pick up the domain: about3dmovies.com

I just think it might have some potential for a nice website.
