    @Zorlock

I agree with everything you say. The questions we'd possibly have different answers for are: How long will people continue to refer to the coming era of technologies, collectively, as "3d"? How long will people continue to search "3d" online? I truthfully don't know, I guess I am just trying to express a theory. I also don't know the answers to more important questions, like: How long will manufacturers stay loyal to labeling products with 3d logos? What will be the next keyword to replace 3d in popularity? I am all ears, btw ;)
All I am saying is, even when the 3d labeled stuff is replaced by another technology, many people might keep saying "3d" and typing it in for quite a while, out of habit/laziness/stubbornness.
I know people will eventually refer to the entire holographic technology as something else...but I think it will be a while before people start typing another keyword in more often than 3D.
BTW I am really only offering my opinion on the usage of "3d" as a search word, and in domain names. I think there will be many trends that will fail to surpass "3d" in monthly searches, before something finally does. 3d has almost 6 times more searches than blu-ray, though less than dvd. and I am very curious what the numbers will look like in the next few years: I hope it goes crazy!
Perhaps I am also keen on it because I like that the phrase has already survived being uncool for a very long time.
As for my name, I stumbled upon this thread and read the hell out of it. I was so intrigued, I attempted to find and register a domain myself. The first thing I found that I wanted was holographics.eu. Proud of my purchase, I returned to the forum to make my first post with this identity.
Sorry, again, for writing so much. Peace!

I hope the searches for 3D goes crazy also. Dont get me wrong I do like 3D. I have picked up some nice 3D domains with nice key worlds. I have even set out to develop one of them (check out my 3D database site). Its still not done and wont be for a long long time.
I am about 60 pages deep into it and I have only skimmed the surface. I have at least 120 pages worth of information that I still need to add.

I know that 3D will be huge... just for how long is the question!

    Cheers

Welcome 3dfun, my advice would be too chase some decent names on the aftermarket , rather than try and hand-register names, all the decent names were gone ages ago

    Good luck in your search

Hey 3Dfun welcome to the 3d boat :) I agree with gilescoley, if you hand register 3d domains now, you will be most likely registering junk domains.

JESUS firstly on this thread! My first post, I need you to help please. And to begin I'll never use 123-reg again!

11th January I bought 3d-tv.com from 123-reg for 2 years. It was in my account/control panel until yesterday (14th Jan) when it just suddenly and randomly disappeared! So I mailed support with my frustration of this issue after looking at whois finding its registered to someone I don't know in Korea or somewhere.

    This is the reply:

Thank you for contacting 123-reg on the 15th January 2011.
This is a reserved domain name and will show up available everywhere but can only be bought by auction which we do not do for these domains. You will have to contact the registrar to see if they want to sell the domain name. I have refunded the domain charge for you. Please allow 5 working days for the amount to show up in your paypal.

    IS THIS RIGHT/LEGAL!???

I purchased the domain without Auction from their site for 29.99 (expensive) for 2 years with privacy. And have the invoice.

My question is how/why they have the right to say its available and you buy it, then suddenly it goes from your account, for no apparent reason!?

Especially as I've spent a lot of time creating a website to upload to it and sorting out hosting etc. etc.

I believe this is unfair, but perhaps because I'm new to this it's a regular occurrence? (Sorry if i'm on the wrong thread, but it fits with the 3D discussion)

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You Very Much

It sounds like they are trying to steal your domain because of the increasing value of 3d. my best suggestion will be to contact icann to resolve this issue. especially if you have all the necessary documentation.
    Good luck

Thanks for your quick reply, your help is appreciated. I just don't know where to begin! Waiting for a reply from 123 from email telling them how i feel.

I understand your frustration but this is not about feelings, it's about money. Like I said, you better start reading icann website and file a complaint. Also you might consider posting your situation in the legal section to get some valuable and relevant inputs. Also this will allow to keep this thread relevant to 3D domains and not legal matters.
    Good luck

Cheers Adam, I have read 'some' of the masses of info and filed a complaint through InterNIC. Maybe I was a little naive to think 3d-tv.com would be available!?

p.s. only found this forum after I registered domain

Well if it was just a backordering service then it's normal. The domain will not be available and never did according to whois info. I was confused and thought you secured the domain then they stole it. in this case just get your money back and nothing you can do.

Sounds like it was a false positive on the availability by your hosting...odd that they charged you before and put it in your account before they had registered it. 3d-tv was created in 2000, it was certainly not available to hand register ever since.

It's strange the DNS say's SEDOPARKING but no page available when you go on the URL.

It's for sale on SEDO for a minimum of £10000!!! JESUS.

I'm not angered at this because this Korean company *probably* owned this domain before me. SO i'm angry at 123-reg. Just craziness!

    Thanks for your help mate

@holographics So why did 123-reg say 'reserved domain name and will show up available everywhere'. No perhaps ONLY at 123-reg! Idiots.

Googled 3d webcam and top result (in Holland) is: http://www.minoru3d.com/, in case anyone is interested. They've been around for awhile, so maybe you all already know them. Thought it was cool they have 3d in the domain... Crazy looking product.
