I think 3DMOVIE.COM has been sold way too early, that domain in 2 years will be worth $20,000 IMO

Just spoke to the owner of 3DMovie.com, he hasn't sold it so it must be a typo

And I don't think he's going to for a long time. I inquired about 3movie.com a few weeks ago. His asking price was $25,000.

that's much more like it - that sale would have been considered a big blow to 3d domain names, i think...
... if the mother of all 3d domain names can't sell for five-six figures, nothing will

.. very cool stuff... i'm loving all these new street views and travel sites... regardless of '3d'.
can still use regular java scripts as well, which is pretty nice.... i have to find one and take a look at the code... would love to know.

If you can believe, i caught a 3d drop today that i will actually use for myself and attempt to build a business of my own around:

    • 3dCakes.net

My girl makes those crazy cakes like you see on ace of cakes and all those cool cake shows... multi layered, and conceptual cakes... they're a whole lotta fun to see (i can't stand the taste of fondant, but they LOOK great)

This should be a fun site to develop 'eventually'
.. and i LOVE the name to build around

    pretty cool, huh? :)

    Toshiba unveils glasses-free 3-D TV
The Tokyo-based company on Monday unveiled the world’s first high definition liquid crystal display 3-D television that does not require special glasses – one of the biggest consumer complaints about the technology.

nice this is what most consumers are shouting for

I think it really depends on what names you have. I would hold onto to specific product names, especially in .com/net and the stronger cctld's like .co.uk, .de, .es, etc

I have nice 3D names in .US (3DRecorder.us, 3DChannel.us, 3DPlayers.us etc) and I couldn't sell them for $10 on domain forums, it is too early though...I am happy to suggest names to keep if you post the names on here...

I'm really starting to lose faith in 3D. As hot as we all think it is, the domain parking isn't pulling in jack shit on these things. Seems like everyone I know isn't even willing to consider 3D TV until the glasses aren't necessary anymore...but is it worth renewing 30 domains for the next 5 years? I guess that's the real question.

    ---------------
    3-D TV sales grow limp

Sales of the much-hyped 3-D televisions have been limp in 2010, a new report says.

Total shipments of the 3-D-capable televisions totalled just 2% of all flat-panel TVs that were shipped to retailers in 2010.

According to the report from DisplaySearch, an industry monitoring firm, cost and content availability are big obstacles.

    ...

Despite those numbers, the industry is expecting shipments of 3-D televisions to reach 41% of the total flat-panel shipments as early as 2014.
    ---------------

Pay close attention to that 2014 date for 41% of new TVs to be 3D capable. Also keep in mind they said as early as, which means that is a best case scenario. This is a far different perspective than the one preached by 3D domain pumpers claiming that critical mass is imminent.

The very few of you holding a small portfolio of decent 3D domains can wait this out and cover the renewal fees, but those with huge portfolios of so-so quality domains seem to have over estimated the speed in which these can be sold to more excited buyers. The total renewal fees spanning quite a few years are going to be a problem for most.
