Hi, I have writing posts on my blog Biksy.com since 2007, although not very regularly. And recently I have started a website on social and political issues ProbingLens.com. Now I want to move all my existing posts from biksy.com to probinglens.com so that I can use biksy.com as a website where I can showcase my works. But i do not want to lose traffic that comes to these articles, nor I want to lose the search ranking they have, whatever low ranking they have. For that I was thinking of moving the post from Site A to Site B using 301 redirect for each of the URLs. But I was wondering if that would be enough? Can I move the articles from one place to another without losing any traffic, ranking, and without making my posts look duplicate to Google? What will be the SEO backlash if I do so? Or Is it ok to do so? I almost forgot to mention that both of them are powered by WordPress. Thanks Bikram
You will always lose some value when redirecting one page to another, and more so in this case when it is a new domain. A 301 is still your best bet though and the way to go if you want to redirect and maintain as much page authority and rank as possible. The search engines have to diminish value slightly when they see a redirect as whilst the content remains the same, the location and domain change which hold some of the value. You also lose an element of link equity for the content as in their eyes, it isnt the content people originally linked to. Key things to ensure: you redirect all pages containing the content you are moving you place a rel=canonical on the new destination page as a further indicator you monitor 401 errors on the old domain to make sure any further locations are also redirected Hope this helps.
Yah redirection will make a some bad effect on your blog.you can redirect your blog in a new domain with 301.
Can you suggest how to do it from inside of wordpress on a linux server? I tried adding it to .htaccess but didn't work, neither did usind simple 301 redirect plugin
