Hi Guys, I haven't checked my page rankings on keywords for some time - too busy with operations! - but notice that i have considerably dropped in the google page rankings. Is this natural? - i.e., if I'm not continually adjusting coding, adding pages, etc, whilst competitors are, is it inevitable I'll drop down? Some of the falls are quite alarming. Is there anything I can read that will help me understand more about what I need to do to retain my rankings? Regards, B.
Yes if you leave a site and don't do any marketing or add new content, your rankings will likely drop. In the eyes of the search engines, your website is no longer relevant. SEO is a constant battle that can't be ignored for long. As each niche becomes more and more competitive, your competitors are going to be putting more effort into beating your site in the rankings. If you were a search engine, which would you rank higher: a site that stopped adding new content and stopped getting links or a fresh site that keeps adding content and links? Obviously the second one would seem like a more important website.
