Wildcard/Catch-all Nameservers (NS1.domain.com --> www.domain.com)

    Hi all,

    I've been trying to accomplish this for a long time. Basically, I want to be able to have a catch-all nameserver facility.

    IE: Any domain which has the nameservers NS1.somedomain.com, NS2.somedomain.com will forward web requests to a website of my choice. (eg: www.somedomain.com).

    I know I could do this running my own Nameservers, but would rather use an existing service that offers this, however haven't found anything suitable or affordable (less than hundreds of $ a month) yet.

    Does anyone know a service which I could use to accomplish this??

    Surely it must exist.

    TIA... :cool:

    you will not find a managed dns service offering this. you will need your own dns servers for 110% sure.

    If you own the domain it's simply a matter of setting *.somedomain.com to resolve to you server's IP address. I have done this using GoDaddy's sorry excuse for a DNS admin interface and also using DynDNS's admin tools (for a paid domain, but the free version is very similar).

    This is a very commonly requested functionality so it's almost inconceivable that your existing nameserver provider doesn't offer it.

    Unless I have misunderstood your intention... maybe you could give us some example requests and results ?

    I thought he wants to run thousands of such domains, thus, have DNS servers to respond to * (ANY)
