Arent all the wikipedia links all REL NO FOLLOW though? If so, PR doesn't pass through. At least thats what I thought.
That isn't necesarily true. I have a bunch of links in Wikipedia and all of the pages have a small adsense placement. MFA sites are crap, and they don't allow crap, so maybe that's what you are thinking of. It's not easy to get a permanent link in Wikipedia. Most will be deleted upon review.
It took just 4 days for the backlink to show up in MSN. (the link is still live on Wiki) FWIW: The site I added is not a commercial site and it’s relevant to the page I added the link to.
I dont agree with this as one of my site running adsense is listed in wikipedia.. That too not added by me, added by somebody who felt my site can support the content in a specific page and it is rightly so.. I have tried adding few of my sites.. The commercial ones (which are UK financial domains) were reviewed by editors and removed them straightaway. Some of my other sites are still intact in wikipedia, but those are just informative sites.. If you try to get your site listed just for the revenue, it sucks..
If you don't know what Wikipedia is all about, just don't post your links there. They will most likely be deleted as SPAM. There are no hard and fast rules about what links can be included etc. but if someone just edits a page and adds an outbound link, that is just asking for the link to be deleted. There are many editors who "watch" pages that they have contributed to or started and they revert crap like that. On the other hand, if you make an account, your edits will no longer show up as anonymous with an IP address, so that's the first step. Then find a few articles about subjects you like and make some corrections, expand them, correct typos etc when you come accross them. With this you will start building a reputation, and then if you add a *relevant* link to a site with *real original content* then, most likely other editors won't jump on it as spam. -just some advice for those who want it.
another point is that they dont allow webmasters to make ads for there sites , even if it was related . Be sure your nickname there or there is no relation with u and the site ... like dont call ur self "xxx" and on the site u say ... site made by "xxx"
I think you can get links to commercial sites on there, but it helps if the commercial site has an information page (non-sales) on whatever the Wiki subject is. That's added value content. That's what they want.
not necessarily true - I would say they don't allow sites that look spammy with ads all over the place. I have a couple of links in Wikipedia, to sites with adsense on them, and they remain. But that is because I just have 1 discrete ad placed per page.
yep those fan boys are tops! one over zealous 'individual' deleted my links and screamed spammer at me... also informed me that as an owner of a site, I was not permitted to ad in my own link even though I'd written half the content on the page... and the link was to an example of the content I'd just written!!!! </rant> even spoke to someone on the mediation cabal... (sorry thought I'd finished) </rant> c'est la vie Perhaps what I need is to find a kind, caring wiki benefactor/editor to get me back in!?? Tips for new players: admit nothing, link only to relevant content, and don't get too greedy!
This thread should be deleted. imho it can be the beginning of the end for wiki when SEO and webmasters start to abuse it...and eventually they will. It will force wiki to make radical changes and eventually turn them into a dmoz like site.
I don't think you can underestimate the determination of some of the editors to remove such links from the database.
