What benefits do you get from getting an "external link" on wikipedia? I got a link on there but I'm not sure how it affects my site exactly. I know that I'll get a fair amount of traffic, and possibly get crawled more often, but anything else? (Seems like my site got indexed within 24 hours of getting on wikipedia )
That about sums it up. It will also help you in ask.com's search engine (if that even means anything anymore).
Probably not . Anyhow, it was extremely useful for getting automatically indexed. More people should try it
No, I put my URL in the external link section for an actual subject/category. As I am aware of, you can't do what you asked or you'll get in trouble
All articles in wiki are nofollow so basically all you are getting is crawled more often. You can still be reported for spam if you post your site on the articles (unless you show your site as a source for relevancy.) In the past, you could post your site and have it followed. The idea was to place your link in an article that was sub-sub categorized that was rarely viewed as to not be reported for spam.
Well the content is the best external link there. My article is the only article that explains the subject so that anyone can learn it, and provides diagrams. It's been up for the past 2 days, so I doubt it'll get taken off or marked as spam.
It helps alot with traffic. At one point, I was getting twice the amount of traffic I was getting through Google Search, just through Wikipedia.
Good to hear . So far my statistics only show a few hits from Wikipedia, but they haven't updated for 24 hours so. I'm getting great SEO traffic with content that is literally just a couple of days old. I wonder if wikipedia had a lot to do with that?
I have recently started to use Wikipedia for a site of mine. The topics on my website are very niche, yet there is a wiki page. So the traffic is highly targetted. Let me give you an example. If you had a site for 1920s movie stars, this is very niche, but you could put a link to the relevant section of your site on each Wiki page and noone will mark as spam. Not sure how it affects search engine results in the long term though. Plus I'm adding a new page every few days, not all of them in one go.
Same here. I put my link on the top of the list. is there a rule against doing that? Seems like fights would break out to see who gets the top link
I have had externals in Wikipedia for over 7 months know, the best traffic per IBL from there was 45 uniques in 30 days. My stats show a consistent 24-32 Uniques per month. Results Vary for everyone though, thats just my limited 7 month experience with wikipedia. Good luck to you. P.S. I did have 2 accounts Banned from wikipedia for spam when i first started out with them, simply posting reference links in the reference area - It helps when you wrote the article yourself, thats the ONLY way I do it now. I have also seen it take up to 7 days for a link to get bumped off by a moderator.
interesting. I guess it just depends on how popular the wiki article is, and where your link is placed
More benefits than you get from a MillionDollarWiki page But yeah, it's all about the traffic, and if it's the right page, that traffic is very nice
