Hi, I know that Wikipedia is no-follow. However, I read that it is very useful to have links from there, as a source for example. what is your opinion?
yes I agree with u... it is nofollow but lacs of people use it for various information .. so if u have link from thr, u get good amount of visitors to your site.. I personally experience it..
But be aware, mods at Wikipedia are no idiots. People like me are reviewing your links. MFA and Affiliate web sites will be kicked. Only quality information can help you get the link permanently.
Yes.. I 100% agree.. because one of my friend had a site (with really quality content) get link from wikipedia.. but when some other friend tried, they wont get it b'coz of may be poor content or site may not be meeting wikipedia's criteria for getting link..
Yes, Wikipedia links are really helpful, also people often syndicate or "copy" sections of Wiipedia which further propogates links in Wikipedia.
Day will come when nofollow links will be divided into few layers and links coming from wiki will be given little more importance then simple nofollow links of today. Now you can think about it to have traffic but not any juice though.
Years ago, my site was listed on a dozen Wikipedia pages. The traffic that came in was literally comparable to what Google was bringing in. It's ridiculous to know how much visibility those Wikipedia sub-pages get...especially since nearly every phrase you search for has one within the top 3 spots...
wikipedia is officially no-follow, but i am almost 100% positive that their "no-follow" is dofollowed in the google algo, wikipedia is the ultimate editorially given link, i always notice an improvement in rankings after getting wikipedia links, but to get the link, it's sometimes world war 3 with some extremely stubborn and crazy idealist editors. if you are successful and get the link tough, then not only you automatically get 100 to 250+ links because of other websites scrapping their content, (some quality websites too like answers.com and many others) but also you get visibility and with visibility if you have quality content people will link to you.. i have a website that teaches a programming language, and i got so many .EDU links from student pages, professor pages.. just because of a link in wikipedia. personally this what i do to get a link on wikipedia. i research the topic very well, then i hire a writer to create an article which completes the Wikipedia page that i am interested in, i make sure the article is at least 1500 words, then i host that article in my website, then i hire the same writer to rewrite sections of that article and give them to me so i can implement them in the Wikipedia page, when i am done i add my Page in the reference section (not the external links). it works like charm most of the time, even stubborn editors can't complain much when they see that i added 700+ words of original content to the article. and if an editor is not happy and wants war then my writer will give him that in the discussion page, if he is still not convinced then we request a third opinion, and then i'll send my 20+ established Wikipedia editors/friends to back up my point of view.. after that, that "nerd" will not have much to say anymore.. if you want a link in Wikipedia, you have to play by their rules.. good luck
They are trying to protect Wikipedia from spammers. But it is a very big site, and you might be able to sneak in a link on a quiet page that nobody watches. But no link on Wikipedia is completely safe forever. I had a link that lasted for almost two years, but then somebody deleted it.
