Wikipedia - Our website disappeared

It was long time ago when I did Wiki for one of my website and business. Website is online PC shop and is now No.1 on Google.

All of sudden it disappeared without any reason. Not sure what went wrong with it?

It was pretty much similar as TigerDirect's content.

Another question, tried to do research but couldn't get answer, can't you submit your own business/website on Wiki?

If above is true how do they find it is you who is submitting your own website?

Wikipedia is not a listing service for links or articles. Especially links which are not dead on to the topic at hand, or articles that are "pretty much similar as TigerDirect's". Though, I may be reading your post wrong...

HIGHLY relevant links can and often do stay.
Duplicate or plagiarized articles often get re-written or nixed.

However, from my understanding, many high ranking DMOZ editors are now high ranking Wiki editors... this could result in it being an inclusive listing service much like the ODP has become. However, that is just speculation based on experiences with DMOZ itself.

Yah, they don't like that too much too my knowledge... unless it's a large company.

What are you ranked number 1 for in google? "buy computers"?

I don't really think Wikipedia encourages you to list your web site and business. It is more towards knowledge sharing and not a Yellow Page. When I went through its guidelines it is more or less telling us that commercial entries won't last long in Wikipedia unless it is something worthy of public knowledge.

No it is not an article or any such services.

It is something like PC world in UK, TigerDirect in USA. It is not dead either.

Yes and also for most of the relevant keywords I'm no. 1 even above eBay which is the 2nd most popular website there.

"Large company" thingy makes sense. Do they have definition for it?

Sorry Qryztufre I think you missed the beginning ;)

I was saying I added my website in Wikipedia. It was live for sometimes and all of sudden it disappeared (removed)

My page was something similar to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tigerdirect

    I got that...

But when you say similar, what do you mean? If it was "pretty much the same" then it was likely deleted in favor of the tigerdirect page. If it was a completely different topic, but kind of like that page, then it would have to of had a different reason for vanishing.

Like what was the actual topic/URL of your article? That may have the key as to why it's no longer seen.

Wikipedia was created to be pool of objective encyclopedia-like information. When SEO world discovered that putting entries on it gives a nice boost to linked pages it was often abused (in view of Wiki editors) by putting marketing related entries.

It seems like Wiki editors recognised your site as attempt of such an abuse and simply erased it.

    But that's only my assumption.

    Regards,

I think I'm getting into it.

It is to do more with being big fella. If you are big you can survive if not then embrace obscurity.

Same rule as in real world.

Sure, if you think about biggest companies in the world, they are a part of our everyday life. Thinking like Wiki editor I would accept entries about these. But putting smaller companies makes Wikipedia to look like YellowPages so they erase such entries.

Wiki has "nofollow" tag. The links won't work for you.

Getting an accepted listing on Wikipedia is like winning the lottery now. Their standards are so high for those "additional links" that you would have to have a real authority site with no ads, affiliate offers, etc. on it to get in. Otherwise, it wont be long for a moderator to remove it.

I'm not after links, I'm after content. Just presence on it is all I need. I don't need links I'm already on the top :)

Who cares about nofollow. A listing on a quality wikipedia page will outdo your daily Google organic hit results :)
