I meant where I can add links? Is there separate section for it or within the content itself?

    Please DO NOT SPAM wikipedia!!!
you may place a link or two, but only if it contributes to others.

wikipedia may eventually remove all external links.

That's what normally happens when the competition catches on to wiki links ... very annoying to say the least.

I was able to get some links on Wikipedia for some sites but more than 99% of the time, the editors don't approve. I've had times when the editor approved the link and the next day it was gone.

It does bring in nice traffic if you can get your link on there.

I never tried to add a link to wiki, anyways I think the website you're adding must a very good one for it to be accepted.

If you want a link from Wikipedia, write an article and add your site as a cited resource. Just make sure you adhere to the guidelines and participate in the community.

Also, I've had luck keeping external links alive if I add them a few months before I add any advertising to my sites.

The key is to only add something if it will really contribute something.

I think that will only happen when Wikipedia contains all the information on the web, and only ever needs to reference itself. There will always be something more to say on a topic outside Wikipedia.

to add links click on the "edit" link on the section where you would like to add. External links is usually the best section.

I think all you ppl don't even know how wikipedia work...

There is no real editor in wikipedia because everyone who visit the page can be edit the content on the page. The next person who visit that page can clean up uesless link right away, so 30 minutes is not long

Also, if you post you link in high traffic page, it is more likely to get remove since every webmaster want to get their link there and delete others

Just echoing what some others have already said, really, but...

Wikipedia is not a shortcut to traffic. There are a lot of eyeballs on what changes are made, nearly immediate really, and genuine contributions will stick. Non-genuine contributions (like blatant link stuffing) will not stick.

If you have a legitimate article/essay on a subject on your site, and if you add a sentence or a paragraph on that subject to the wikipedia entry, and if your sentence/paragraph is thoughtful and fits -- it will probably stay past 30 minutes.

As you might guess from my username, I have a sudoku puzzle site. When that first got big, there were a lot of us (yes, I'm guilty too) throwing links onto the wikipedia article. Since that article came up 2nd or 3rd on a google search for "sudoku", and since it was technically possible, that made some sense. It quickly got out of hand, and now there are some pretty vigilant people watching that page to prevent anything of the sort happening again.

Final note is wikipedia is meant to be objective and informative. If your content is neither, there's no honest way to get yourself linked to from them.

I've got a few links on it, but then i edited most of the pages i add my link on.

I would suggest finding a topic/page that doesn't have much information on it. Add upto date information, and also old information as long as you say its old information and then add a link to a relevent page on your site.

Other links where i have just added my link onto the page without adding any information, they have been removed within a few days.
