Many times when i need to search informations about a new hardware, or about traveling in a city/country ... I use Wikipedia... Why I use Wikipedia?! Because the content is always more cool then in others pages... because it's got pages stuffed with keywords (you known those link keywords, and you can click on them to find out what those "keywords" represent, etc), and external links that aren't spammy. Google nowadays is very spammy, because every guy with a few hundredths of bucks can create a website and buy some links... and rank well for some particular keywords... In 90% of cases, top 100 results from a google search return comercial sites... I think that the only site that can competite with a google, is Wikipedia... why ?! Because all content/sites are human review... google search is not human reviewed... what do you think?! can WIKI be next google?!

Me too I definately think Google has lost some types of search to Wiki.
I don't think it will overtake Google however. Not for searching the whole web.

Yes I think wikipedia may be the future of Search

If they can integrate the content with the Search

that is if a Search engine( Searching the web) is integrated with wikipedia it would be good!

Since there would be some editors or persons you like each article

So they can sort the listings according to relevance

There are still a lot of features that a search engine has and Wikipedia does not. Wikipedia is more on educational and is really full of info. But I'm afraid it can't replace a Google.

Wikipedia has limited options, therefore it will always stay as the best reference, but not a search engine providing multitude of variants for each query.

I don't think the jump from 'encyclopedia' to 'search engine' is doable.

Future of search will be something like this.

1)For better ticket deals goto specific sites like priceline
    2) For better products and prices go to shop.com,ebay.com etc
    3)For knowledge go to wiki
4)For specific knowledge about websites, seo etc go to DP,webmasterworld.com etc
5)For everything else go to google/yahoo/msn

So, you should depend on google, only if you don't know where to go and what you want.

Everybody has a market and no one can replace the other.
    Hope iam clear.
    Now give me positive recs.........Lol

Wikipedia specialises in one thing at the moment, and thats the way it will stay imo. It is an amazing tool at the moment for what it is, an encyclopedia, the name would be nothing if it wasnt an encyclopedia...

That is how it is today. But a person that wants to start with SEO or wants to read a guide about PHP, might not know where to find that, and will use a search engine.

And just because the search engines might not have the best results today, they can improve. They will allways do. But I still think, as you say that Wikipedia will be boss for knowledge searches, and shopping sites for shopping. But for people to find shopping sites they have not visited or heard of, they need a search engine.

Wikipedia would not be a search engine becuase they don't really index other sites. They just index their own information. So, they will more than likely stay an encyclopia, and a good one at that.
