Yepp -- this will push them down the DMOZ route...there are already enough bad sites as external links from wikipedia, all those DMOZ editors will rush to Wikipedia in droves...WikiPornepedia can't be far away;)

I wasn't being sarcastic - its a fact that most of Wikipedia's articles are written by teenagers who did and do searchs on Google. Make of that what you will.

The search results wikipedia presents are not on par with Google. Using Google to do searchs on Wikipedia gives you better more relevant results plus it has things like the spelling suggest.

it is hard to compete with some one who already started a business years ago and got a hyg of servers full of years of collection and updated every min data, to try to break Google you will need lighting speed to to make the distance between new search engin who will just start and an old one that started looong time ago and not a sleepy one but growing huge and spreading its arms to many deferent ways and projects, i don't say it can be betting but it will take a lot of time and a lot of work spidring the web is not the problem because you can lunch the applications to collect even tho it will take time but what is difficult is to keep up with the new data them websites you collected and i am not talking about millions of websites , BILLIONS of websites Blogs Mobi now is in..... that is a lot of work yahoo got bet msn got bet and i don't think wiki can bet some one huge like google, even if we say google got "brock " and got problems the second choice that surfers will head too is yahoo or msn.

i read about this in the newspaper...and it sounds scary...we are all trying hard for seo techniques etc...and when this comes along..its gonna be 100% based on CONTENT...no links, nothing...because the people decide what sites are best..and thats by uniqueness and content

I am sure there will be a google killer eventually but this is just not it and a google killer is not on the horizon for many years to come.

I think the Wikipedia project is a great one. Google should be scared. I know when I go to Wikipedia I am going to get the answers I seek, including relevant URLs, I can't say the same thing for Google.

It is easy to make claims that one would be the best. In reality it is like ascending a slippery Googling hill barefooted.

Wikipedia will never threaten google. If google de-indexed their site they'd lose 50% of the traffic in a matter of days.

And google would get sued for trying to be a monolpoly, legally I think Wikipedia are safe they won't get de-indexed by Google. Also it is worth noting this is nothing to do with Wikipedia as Wikipedia is a chairty not private owned by Jimmy.
