I misspoke, I meant in relation to the stranglehold they had on the PC market in the early 80s. they have done some AMAZING things as a business over the last decade or two. It was just a matter of them not being willing to change at the time.

Hmm, will this really work? Im not sure exactly how Wiki works, do you need to become some sort of an editor to edit the contents on there? I can see it already every webmaster out there is going to be putting their website first in wikipedia in order to rank in wikisaurus(or whater it is, sounds like a dinosaur name). It will just be a never ending battle of editing wikipedia:confused:

One thing that sucks about Wikipedia.org is the search engine.

    It's woeful.

No one is killing the big G anytime soon.

There are a lot of companies on the block, but Google is beyond another monster in the block. Google -is- the block.

softwareprojects they said that about IE, they said that about Yahoo when it was number one, they said it alot. Sometimes people just change, events happen or companies make mistakes.

It says search is broken? I can find 95% of the stuff I am looking for on google. However, there are some things that I don't bother searching for (i.e. wholesale sellers) I may use that search in rare occasions, but I still like google.

    --edit--
Doesn't yahoo still make more then google?

Depending on how they setup the search engine, it could possibly work. Having Wikipedia as a resource should help but it will take more then just wikipedia to beat google at search. I believe the Search engine that delievers more relevent results will beat google.

I think it could very well beat Google. It "relies on human intelligence to do what algorithms cannot", that sounds pretty groovy. Wikipedia beat Britannica (kinda). However, whether this WILL beat Google I doubt. But it will be interesting to find out. It's very to kill Google.

Wikipedia is mostly written by teenagers who did research on articles with Google search.

Which means that eventually, all good content on the Internet will end up -- reworded -- on Wikipedia.

Hon Daddy Dad, as much as that is true please do not use teenagers as if it means the content is not as good as 'adult' content.

Because they possess a lot of information. Something gaygle is highly in search of. Have you yourself been queering(pun intented) gaygle as of lately and seeing lots of wiki results? I sure as helll have.

If wiki could take all of the info it has, lock it down on their own servers, get some engineering going and slapping some advertisement around the screen, they'd be the start of 'something' and I could only see it growing.

I think it's time you took gaygle's cock out of your mouth. but yea, we know, you like it in there.

And so you are saying that wikipedia results are on par with Gaygle. Looks like your sarcasm backfired.

No doubt wikipedia possess a lot of Unique information, but there are some limitations too. Wikipedia can't update details as quickly as Gaygle :)D) doing, wiki is not useful For EVERY purpose.

Remember the fact that one of the Google execs couldn't name all their services?:p
Google nearly did do this until they realized what was happening and pulled back from the brink.
