    "the top three results will be wikipedia content, and the remaining results are determined by sites wikipedia considers to be “reputable” because they are external reference links from wikipedia pages."

    If I want to search Wikipedia, I can already do that. I don't need a new tool to do that. It looks like they are just trying to monetize Wikipedia.

    He will be hard pressed to kill Google. Yahoo wont even beat Google unless Google makes the same mistake Yahoo did.... failing to refine the core search while wasting time and money on useless acquisitions..

    hmm.. YouTube, Picasa, Keyhole, .. Maybe Yahoo will come back after alll

    exponent, Google does not focus on things and forget other things, nor does Yahoo!, they both have large teams, and aquisitions get them more employees, so I think your idea is way far from logic.

    I agree with you entirely, it makes complete sense. Even though I am kinda stoked that someone might think my dumb old site is reputable p;

    Seeing as wikipedia very rarely links to comercial webpages its gonna suck for shopping related searches.

    I doubt it will "kill" Google, but it wouldn't suprise me at all if it was fairly successful. Look at the sheer number of results they have in Google, it seems like practically every search I do comes up with Wikipedia on the top page.

    Right, the amount of people who use wikipedia isnt even close to the amount of people who use google.

    Google has an Alexa rank of #3; Wikipedia has an Alex rank of #12.

    Does that count as "close?"

    It will be very difficult to beat google. I think part of the credit for wikipedia's popularity goes to google also. If google did not consider wikipedia as a trust worthy site, they wouldn't have appeared on top of many SERPs.

    But a new idea could always work. Who knows...
