Guys, is it ok to take content from wikipedia to use on my sites? wiki content changes all the time so it should be ok from duplication right?
Depends what you are using it for. If its a spammy site where you want to fill thousands of pages then its probably OK to use. On the other hand if you want to make a useful site its better to write original stuff.
This is the best you can do.Give credit to wikipedia by linking back to them stating that you're articles are from wikipedia. I saw a site that uses wikipedia content when you search for a certain topics it will reveal a wikipedia content. So I dont think there is no problem using the content of wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Text_of_the_GNU_Free_Documentation_License Should give you the exact information on what you need to do to remain within the GFDL license (which wikipedia content is licensed under).
While you "can" technically, I would create original content...if you do, it would be uncool to do it without a link and some credit. Eric
this should not be a problem since wikepedia is open source, just give the proper credits. The issue is how much you can use on your page so that google will not penalize you for dup content. If you're just using parts of a wiki to beef up your page and not exceed a certain % (say 10%, my opinion), you should be ok.
You can use Wikipedia, but use it wisely. Don't overuse it. And please remember to gives credit to them for using their content.
