I think it would help your Yahoo & MSN rankings. Google is the only search engine that uses the nofollow attribute. Plus this can be a great source of direct traffic.
Yes, think of it as a way to state your site as a reference for the visitors. If your link stays in Wikipedia and is not removed after a few hours/days, it means your site is actually useful to people. Plus it will bring you a lot of traffic.
I've been listed a few times and did see some traffic. I guess it depends a lot on the subject matter and how built-out the page is.
Wikipedia is also great for indirect backlinks because so many people scrape their content. If you have your link on a wikipedia page, there is a pretty good chance that someone else is going to scrape the content for their own site, generating a related backlink for you. I've had this happen a number of times with links I've posted on various articles.
unfortunately inbound link from wikipedia is no-follow, but the matter of fact is that there is still great chances of getting traffic directlyu from wikipedia...... just yuo need is to feed in great contents in wikipedia and then all wikipedia has to do ...............
1. You can get good traffic from wikipedia 2. Scrapper sites often use wikipedia content and give dofollow backlinks
I have some links on Wikipedia they are no follow but they show up on Yahoo site explorer. I have not received much traffic this way, only 3-5 visits per day. There are other wiki clones that I have found that are dofollow that allow links that also have pagerank. These are much more valuable.
Seems interesting, CTBoss. Do you have a list of those clones? Are they as broad as Wikipedia in term of content, or are they specialized?
It's good in terms of direct traffic (from my experience, not large, but relevant) if an article is useful and, therefore, read quite often. I assume that the best option here would be getting links if someone else mentions your website. That would be the best option. From my experience - as an example, product comparison pages from Wikipedia work quite well.
When you are looking organic and unique visitors to your new website, Wiki will give you more direct traffics.
Nope, Although the links are nofollow it is great source for targeted traffic. Google regularly crawl wikipedia pages means it still give some exposure to search engine as well.
Read this next post It looks like dcristo knows something about the wikipedia moderators. Yea, I have been there as well. If you manage to get a link into wikipedia, it can be a source of traffic to your site. But the overall SEO effect is probably going to be limited. Before you try to get a link in wikipedia, ask yourself a few questions. Are you a professional? This means do you have a doctors degree in something? Because unless your website is several years old, and unless you are some kind of professional in a field, the wikipedia moderators will delete your link within minutes of it being added. If your lucky, the link might be there an hour or two. Getting a link to your site on wikipedia is not ever easy, and the SEO factors are limited.
Yes, but not on google. it only help abit on yahoo / MSN and some other SERP It is good only in term of driving traffic to your site, but not much helps on SEO
It would bring good traffic, if the topic is pretty hot . I think nofollow is introduced by Google and applied to the Google search results . What about other search engines who have not mentioned their policy about nofollow tags .
