I am sure wikipedia loves to be on the top. I am not sure though that a lot of webmasters love it! Again my main issues are that a) the information are not accurate as the admins control this and b) since anyone can contribute why you don’t allow my link? (if its relevant and not a spammy viagra selling website) cheers stelios
One thing I ust agree on is that, fr some keywords, you have no chance of outranking them no matter how hard you try. That can be a disconcerting thought.
I have also noticed that wikipedia comes 2-4 position in a lot of searches. Is not first! So that makes thing that is set like this.....Just a thought
I think it is normal, because wikipedia is really very good and lovly database, and it is normal that google shows it first...
Yes, google like wiki very much. So if you have some keywords listed in wiki and somehow directed to your site, it would be a great traffic.
You do have chance of out ranking them. You just have to become a better page and get more people to link to you. I see no problem with wikipedia coming first in google tbh it is one of the best places for information. So why should it not come first . I don't get why people like to spam it because i expect they have used it at some point so you are only hurting themselfs. http://www.google.co.uk/search?complete=1&hl=en&q=sex&btnG=Google+Search&meta= - sex ftw
what if wikiepdia used nofollow so links could be added? what do you think about this? At least you get the traffic people wont spam it just to get the high pr and authority backlink!
They beat me out of my #1 spot for my business and my traffic tanked. That is the way it goes, but it still does not sit well with me!
what is the problem wikipedia ? it is great resource for everybody . it has more backlinks than you . it has better optimizing than you . so it's normal wiki to have a better serp result
Then why try out ranking them when you cant??? There are billions of keywords out there, wikipedia cant control them all. You should just concerntrate on different keywords.
wikipedia provides exactly what readers want, sometimes information shows only in wikipedia and the entire google descbibes relatively, so if wikipedia will not remain at the top list then how can you find exact meaning.
Wikipedia is amazing. I have done some editting and found anything that I added was either edited or deleted it it was perceived to be not to the standard. In one case I questioned the admin and he undid the delete, in other cases they pointed out something in terms that I overlooked (a trademark issue). The amazing thing is how vast and active it is. Put some junk in there and see how long it lasts (don't do this, but I bet it would not be long). It's a breath of fresh air in contrast to DMOZ and the two to three year to infinity waits for directory updates if you don't edit a category yourself. The funniest abuse I saw was the picture on the Soccer page had the image replaced with an animated GIF of Zidane head butting an opponents chest at this years World Cup. Alas, some admin (probably French ) reverted to the boring picture of a guy "wearing a red kit" getting ready for a strike on goal.
The fact that anyone can contribute to an article does not make that article less credible; it makes it more credible.
