Wikia or hosting my own wiki?

    Hi,

    Should I use wikia to host a wiki or host my own? What do you think are the pros and cons of each?

    I've installed the wiki APP before but never used Wikia before.

    But I'm assuming the Advantages of Wikia are that it's free (I think), but if you host your own you'll have the ability to customize things more to your liking and control of your theme as well as being able to get advertising revenue if you wanted.

    With some experience, you can do just about anything you wanted with APPs. Not so much when it's hosted elsewhere or on some free site. Maybe someone else can provide some more detail on the Wikai since I've never used them before.

    If you don't have any intention to modify the source code of the wiki itself, I believe it's wise to start with wikia, however you will not have complete control over your wiki. If you need complete control, go with self-hosted.
