Recently, I noticed some very strange behaviors in the SERPs for a few of my sites with top 10 ranking for some major keywrods/phrases. When I checked out webmaster tools, I noticed a few strange keyword/phrases in the "Statistics" section. Specifically, under the section "what googlebot sees" under "In external links to your site" Mixed in with my normal keywords/phrases, are terms like: viagra augmentin play poker online cheap viagra discount viagra online casino etc, etc When I did a google search on that phrase and one of my domain names, I would find a page like this: These spam pages are ALL indexed in Google(some for months): 1)NOT SAFE for WORK, but unfortunately one of the best examples demonstrating that while some are typical blog spam, other links are random: Google cache of http://www.pornaddicted.net/index.php?itemid=3080 2)http:// lenaek . se/index.php?itemid=255 3) google cache of http://dev.swish-e.org/ticket/1240 examples of random non-spam links that are mixed in through the page(coincidently all of them appear to have PR): http://gallery.waynelutz.net/index.php http://reviewer.se/default.asp http://web.answerbag.com/ask http://mapilab.com/suggestion/index.html http://trafficbkk.com/91_fm_live_sc/traffic_live_view.asp http://mayerbrown.com/lawyers/index.asp Sites like these are unknowingly having their SERPs affected. Some of these pages have been indexed for almost 6 months. Tests I have done clearly indicate that these sites are being affected, often dropping out of the SERPS completely for weeks at a time. With all of Google's concern with link spam, why are spam techniques like this flourishing. This has been ongoing for over 4 months. The technique seems pretty simple: 1) spam blogs with your viagra site URL 2)spam other blog sites with your viagra site URL and mix in some authoritative links with PR. 3)sit back and watch your viagra site get traffic The difference between this and normal blog spam is that completely unrelated third party sites are being penalized. I've literally watched affected sites drop completely out of Google for weeks at a time, then pop back in the exact same positions they were in. Then drop back out again. Unlike normal SERP fluctuations, these drops are always preceded by actions that related directly to these blog/wiki spammed pages. If you've had strange fluctuations in your SERPs, I recommend you check webmaster tools and contact google.
Uhhh .... no. That was the point of my post. My sites aren't even remotely related to viagra or poker. But spammers that include links to my websites(and other) in their blog/wiki spam are hurting my (and other sites) SERPs.
It looks like someone is trying to make their porn links look more legitimate by mixing in some links to good sites. Maybe you should file a complaint with Google.
That's what I figured... it's pretty sad that google is still indexing these pages even four months later. It wouldn't be that difficult to filter out, certainly much easier than all the effort they are putting into paid links.
I have found some people linking to my threads on my forum and as I use vBSEO, they try to get a linkback, but I simply delete them
