wii names and trademark?

is there going to problems for some (good) wii names?

ie;

wiigames, wiiconsole, wii.** (various tlds), etc?

thoughts?

 

They would be subject to trademark infringement if the content was game related - however, gaming companies have tended to look the other way or to allow use of their marks. In short, they could stop use or even take the domain if they wanted, but unlike most companies, they haven't been agressive in the past (and no one can predict the future).

 

I wouldnt worry about it, but i think they could technically do something if they wanted to

I've seen a lot of sites with wii in the domain and Nintendo hasn't done anything. Technically it's publicity for them, even if on a minute scale, plus they'll like sites that praise the console.

 

All depends on the company. It's the trademark holder's responsibility to defend the trademark.

Most game companies let fan sites go. They are most concerned with sites making money off their name or doing other things that are not legally or acceptable to the corporation.
