WiFi connections abroad

Does anybody know the best way for me (based in the UK with a WiFi laptop)...if it is possible... to be able to use a wireless 802.11b or g connection abroad?

I am going to Tenerife shortly and need a fast connection and can't seem to find anything out concrete enough to convince me I can do this.

Has anyone done this before? Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check if your hotel has WiFi, or search Google for something like Tenerife Internet cafe.

    http://www.hotspot-locations.com/

there are more lists when you type in Tenerife wireless hotspots G Y M

Some you have to pay some are just free....

I travelled to Asturia / Galicia (Spain) recently. Downloased Network Stumber and whilst my wife was driving slowly through a town checked open connections , parked and connected .. just like that ......

I think the Intel Centrino site has a list of (payable?) hotspots....

Use the best wifi card you can get away with I use a buffalo (54) which is bang stable and has a great range.

I just bought an "old" orinoco gold card w/external antenna jack and 5dbi antenna. Let me just say that this is the best pcmcia wifi card I have used yet. Plugged it into my laptop with XP...recognized it right away, no driver to install, connected with my local network (unlike my Dlink card) and the range is pretty amazing....better than the 3 other adapters I have....and the thing was built in 2002. The only "drawback" is no "G", but I will take the range and the compatability any day of the week.

There was a message from 'abereto' last June asking about wifi hotspots in Tenerfie. If you''re still there, did you find any and where?
