wierd visits

    Hi.
I have a new site that I was working but then had to stop for awhile.
Total traffic for the whole month of Dec was under 100 uniques.
I haven't submitted it anywhere yet or completed the site.

This evening, I went and checked stats. For Jan. 2006 it shows 46 unique visitors already. Hmm, that's interesting. So, I wondered where they came from. There was only one person who came from a search engine. The other visitors came by directly typing in the URL or used a Bookmark. Which is strange because I don't remember telling anyone about the site yet.

But, I'm writing because I noticed the IP addresses for all the visitors start with the same string. What could that mean? I did a search on a few of them and they came up... assertivenetworks. net

Is this a potential problem? I never saw anything like this so I thought someone more experienced could tell me what I'm looking at. Thank you.

    Hi nightmare5liter.
Yes, as I mentioned above I also found that it was connected to assertivenetworks. net

But, I'm not sure I understand why there are so many different IP endings.
Is it all from the same company? Why would it register under so many different IPs. Were 45 people from the same company looking at my website at the same time?

Sorry, I'm such a newbie when it comes to stats.

It could be a spider, or it could be that someone in the office saw something they liked and decided to email it out to co-workers. Or it could be that assertive is responsible for monitoring your server. Are they all going to the same page? Is it the root page or someplace special in your site? It could also be a virus or worm from assertive that's looking for vulnerabilities.

    Hi.
It looks like they are all entering the site on a different page.
So, it's not like someone sent a link to all their friends.

Thank you guys for all the input. I'll post if I find anything new.

    Have a great day.
