If i have a widget and it has a link back to my site (outside of the flash area) and people embed that widget into their blogs. Do those links count as back links? will they help SEO?

or can the spiders not crawl the embed code?

If the link is outside the Flash file (assuming you're providing the HTML code that "plugs in" the widget) and does not have rel="nofollow" on it, or isnt on a page that's blocking spiders from crawling/following links either through a META tag or robots.txt file, then yes, that link would most definately be crawled.

Assuming the link was left in, of course.

Why don't you show me what the code looks like so I can give you a more definitive answer?

    Dan,
I don't have a specific example now, but i was thinking abot creating a widget for SEO purposes for the backlinks, but then i thought since lots of widgest are embed code, javascript, or iFrames that the link may not get spidered in the sites the widget is on...
