Neither will attract a high or as good CTR than a square ad unit will within your posts. Try adding one with the text wrapping around it - there are a few AdSense Wordpress plugins that allow you to do this.
Yes, I've tried using ads wrapped around test but it wasn't that high. So I just want one ad on each page and was wondering if wide skyscraper is better or just the normal one.
How long did you have the square ad unit in place? I'd leave it in for at least a couple of weeks before switching placements. I can almost guarantee that the square unit will have a much higher CTR than a unit in your sidebar. edit: Huge thanks to the ever-so-kind user that decided to red rep me for simply giving advice to the OP. Thanks for calling me a "mindless idiot" too, much appreciated buddy.
A couple months lol, ctr was only 0.72-.80% edit: @trichnosis : No I haven't, I don't want to use any of those links.
The wide skyscraper does better than the 'normal' one. A big square block in the text will usually do well also, but it does annoy people more than a skyscraper.
:O Whoa , I just checked my stats. The CTR has increased to approx 1.7 , I think I'll use this for a week and see how it goes.
I think you need to experiment. Try different layouts and blending options and see what works best. Most people say a ad unit near the foot gets a poor ctr but it works best of the ones I tried so far.
