Why you put Adsene on directories

I am curious to ask why most of you have put Adsene on Directory websites.
What's its real time benefit except impressions.
Because only those webmaster submit to directories who have little sense of SEOing and these kind of webmasters are well aware of what is adsense and how does it work.So this behavior drops 1000% chances of clicks from these kind of webmasters.
So why you have put adsense on your directory website ?

Perhaps it's better than not having the ads visible at all? ;)

At least with them there, there's a chance that someone might click ...

my directory is geting about 6 % of total traffic from search engins. although many web masters don't click on ads. but 6 % (as of now) generates not very great revenue but atleast it manges the running cost of my directory.
as my directory age will grow, it will be getting more of search engin traffic and resulting increased crick through.

Niche directories do get traffic from search engines. So it provides another option for the directory owner to monetize the site. For general directories it is mostly the webmasters visiting, hence adsense in general directories does not make much sense IMHO.

My directory currently is less than 2 weeks old. It generates more in Adsense than what I pay in Adwords to bring in a little search traffic. So, Yes it is worth it, and no, I do not count on webmasters for Adsense revenue.

why not add it? It takes a few minutes and after a few months you can decide if it's worth it. I have a niche directory, it makes peanuts (US$10 this month)- but enough to cover the hosting fees. Mind you the point of the directory is not really business related - it's just a hobby project

Maybe in the short term, but as the way general directories go - Smart Pricing from Adsense could potenially ruin your earnings for your other sites running adsense from the same account.

The reason i say this is because directories generate a lot of disorganized and meaningless traffic so if that's the case - (which not all directories are effected by this) you are hit by Smart Pricing and just like that you are earning less from Adsense than what you were getting before.

I found this out from expierience since i had adsense running on a completely finished Pittsburgh directory and also later on on a new Cleveland directory - and smart pricing dropped my earnings in half even though i was running it on twice as many pages.

Basically just be careful when adding Adsense on your Directory as it may have an adverse effect on all your other sites.

But a little income goes a long way to paying the registration cost / hosting fees, and with time, the income will grow. I would think most link sites are created by people who saw a need, not $$. There are easier ways to generate income.

Whoa, don't ask if you don't want the answer.

    ...
I have a directory and for me, pay per click is the ONLY thing that pays. So yeah, adsense does exxxtremely well on link directories... After all, that's what visitors DO at directories (i.e.: click on links).

Adsense is the second-largest source of income for my site, the largest source is paid submissions (meaning I get PAID when I list someone else's site, many smaller directories nowadays charge for a listing). The third-largest source is banner ads where I get paid per impression, between those 3, my dedicated server is paid for and I ALMOST got to the point where I get free Internet, lol.

Because to be quite blunt, I don't care if my visitor makes a purchase at their destination or what they do... What apparently has escaped the attention of some folks is that once my visitor LEAVES my site, they are no longer my responsibility. So long the link is not misleading and gives an honest description as to what the visitor can expect at the other end AND there is no incentivising, as far as I am concerned once they click, they become the destination's responsiblity: Yeah, they leave my site - They arrive at Sponsors site <- Now it's THEIR visitor and I don't care if they buy something or not, that is not my job.

Even IF I get awesome conversions of say, 1 in 300... Adsense pays me several cents/click so if I have to send 300 clicks to get ONE sale, then I better get at least 15 dollars for it. But do most sponsors pay that much, do most of them convert that good? The simple answer is no. Maybe most sponsors expect affiliates to MAKE the sale. All the affiliate has to do is SEND the visitor, the sponsor is responsible for making the sale, and if the sponsor fails the affiliate sends free traffic? Yes, I understand this concept well today.

Thus I get paid either per click, or per impression. After all, it is not my fault if the sponsor's site doesn't convert plus I don't like to worry about trust issues. Now I get paid FIRST and not IF.

As for the rest of it, I wear tall hipboots.
