I'm thinking about starting a paid directory, I'm wondering what are the factors that you consider to pay for a directory. How much is aceptable for you? Year fee's / Permanent?
I think the better question would be why would ayone pay to be in your directory? Answer that question for your potential clients and you'll be set. I shy away from paid directories for the most part except for the "big ones" like Yahoo & MSN. They have hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of backlinks and boatloads of visitors. They are stable and won't disappear tomorrow when the webmaster running them decides to start something new. Not to mention there are about 10,000,000,000,000,000 free directories out there at the moment. The last paid directory outside of those I tried was Bluefind which turned out to be a flop.
Can i get that list please I have good ideas for it, plain text links, multiple links and categories per listing. I think that at least set me over most free directories. Also the plan is not to have adsence in the middle (probably not at all) like most other directories, they look as dedigned just for adsence.
That's a step in the right direction. I hope you didn't take my post as me being an ass - I am but that's besides the point In a long winded fashion I was just saying you need to be able to differentiate your directory from the gazillions of other directories out there. And yes, here's that list
Results 1 - 10 of about 21,200,000 for free directories. (0.17 seconds) Code (markup): Thats only part of it!!!! j/k Im really interested about what people think is a fair price for a listing.
Please have a look at the following link of yours . http://www.goodseo-badseo.com/ There's an error in display.
I don't pay more than $10 for a ("Lifetime") directory link (not including the big guys as GFC said) these days. And honestly, I still look at PR.
The factors I look at when deciding to submit to paid site are: 1) PR; 2) Alexa (traffic) rating; 3) Incoming links; 4) Presentation and structure of the site. If you have a good PR, good traffic, and a good directory structure, you can charge for listings, and a lot of people will pay. I would not recommend doing it until you have these, though.
I don't think I would be willing to pay for a link unless the directory unless I knew that a ton of human visitors will have the chance to click through. I might pay if the directory was my genre specific.
