The majority of the links to your website are worthless. Thats why. Google will only show the backlinks that actually contibute to a pages rank.
Yeah. you are right. Yahoo and Google having different algorithm and working methods. Google will show only quality back link but yahoo will show all the link which are created on net.
Yahoo actually doesn't show all of your backlinks, they only show the first 1,000 where Google webmaster tools show all of them.
That is right for Google to show only quality links via link: operation and more (but not all) via Google Webmaster Tools. But, The main fact about this is, Yahoo bots never care "nofollow". It would trying to crawl everything they have gone through They also do count everytype of links your site has regardless to quality, they do count even nofollow link or some type of javascript link, even a redirect one. That's why the number of links shown by Yahoo is much more compared to Google.
Yahoo shows everything, redirects, temporary links, anything that is pointing to your site. Google is more selective, probably have some sort of aging algorithm only to show links that are older than N days. You can see them in google webmaster tools. What actually is published in the index for anyone to see is probably just really good links that are relevant to the site.
It depends what you mean by best results. Google sends more traffic. Google is more selective of what it shows to the public. What is shown in the webmaster tools is just a sample taken at one point in time. Yahoo, shows more links in their site manager. I believe yahoo API shows all links that pointed to your site at any time. Google is the king now, so focus on that. And it really does not matter how many links they show, what matters is your position for your selected keywords. Peter
I had the same problem w/ my FF some time ago. Seems to be some type of Trojan. I installed Avast & CounterSpy, ran a couple boot-time scans and haven't had a problem since. I have also read that AntiMalware and SuperAntiSpyware can remedy this as well. I recommend CounterSpy, but it's up to you. Download one, update the virus/spyware definitions, run a scan and you should be good. Peddu Hostcats.com
Most links shown on Yahoo when typing "link:www.site.com" are less valuable then links shown on Google for the same syntax.
