Why Yahoo is a poor Search Engine

For 3 years I have had an authority site in Google that is a PR 7 and has interior PR 6 pages. The site has 10000 pages indexed and as soon as I make a new page it is picked up within 48 hours.

In 3 years Yahoo has managed to only index 300 pages and has not ever sent one visitor to the site.

    Why is this bad????

Because on the site there are many pages that are new products that are not mentioned anywhere in the Search Engines.

Google picks them up right away and ranks them at the top because they are the most authoritive on the subject.

Because of Yahoo refusing to index a site that they have alot of information on they are insulting people that want good results.

For example.....If I have a site that is very common online like a store that sells "flower delivery" online. Yahoo refuses to index the entire site hoping to get the $299.

The bad thing is, if the new "flower delivery" site offers a new flower or product and has a name attached to it such as "the neon blue rose" Yahoo wont pick it up, but Google will within a couple days because it is new information.

However, if you were to go out and get a domain and the main index page is about "neon blue roses" Yahoo will index your site because they don't have any information on it.

Yahoo does not allow people with authorative sites to relay new information to their audience.

I know where you are coming from and I dont understand Yahoo all the time either.

But for some odd reason whenever I get to the point that you are at Yahoo seems to pick up my site and starts listing it. It can take a long time for Yahoo to finally start listing sites though.

But 3 years seems a little rediculas to me. Longest I waited was a year.

At the same time it sends crap traffic so its not really a huge deal.

I guess Yahoo concentrates on building a directory. I can't say how updated it is, but I've found few top sites from fields I was searching for.
Example: Healthboards.com is placed in a first place while searching for health forum. It is really good forum. I think one should look for what a site can offer and not why it can't do something.
Yahoo has a good video site: video.yahoo.com

It does seem as if Yahoo traffic does not convert to sales particularly well in my experience.

Well, regarding your question, I can not answer you because it wasnt a fact.

You may have an authority site in google, but it doesnt mean that your site is automatically an authority site in Yahoo's eye. 10000 pages? Well, maybe your site is database driven or you extract the content from elsewhere.

Your site maybe spammy in Yahoo's eyes? who knows. But I can tell you that Yahoo and MSN have the best spam filtering mechanism (not ranking algo). Google is just too far behind them in filtering spam sites.

It's kinda funny to see people making statement that way when I looked at your thread title. It's just like your son failed the mathematics, and he blamed that maths are not a good subject :)

I don't know about you guys, but yahoo is indexing my site much faster then google. Yahoo picked itup within a week and already picked up almost 1000 URLS. Google is only at 500; at it thinks they are all "the same page" for some very strange reason. Oh well.

Yahoo actually delivers better converting visitors to most retailing websites than Google so that is an inaccurate statement to make to start your post.

Next where did you get the Authority Site Certificate or Ribbon??

Perhaps you have spammy meta tags Yahoo does not like or have crawl issues youre not aware of...do you use a robots.txt file?

Lastly Yahoo is not a search engine, but a portal....;)

Youre comparing apples to oranges, and that doesnt work so well in this instance.

Because yahoo focus on too many areas, and has too many sub search engines, and they can't do the searching function better. That's why they were supercede by google.

    Will try again

    Google = search engine

    Yahoo = portal

Next lets look further at the money

    Google

    Revenue 2005 $6.1 Billion

    Income 2005 $1.5 Billion

    Yahoo

    Revenue 2005 $3.6 Billion

    Income 2005 $1.5 Billion

Therefore, both companies are excellent at what they do, however the figures show Yahoo to be much more profitable being as they earned the same income as Google, with half the earnings..

So as it seems your post is off quite a bit in it's statement...

    You dont like Yahoo...

    Millions of others do!!

    Peace

More reasons Yahoo is it's own little slice of marketing fun.

Users on Yahoo are logged on for an average 29 minutes

    Google 4 minutes

Yahoo invites marketers small medium or large to participate in classes taught throughout the USA on how to improve their business.

Google has a bunch of blog puppets who rant about the most mundane issues and offer little in the form of any comprehendable help. I care to hear of a search engineers vacation, about as much as I want to stick pins in my eyes

His success??? hes an employee of Google....he successfully landed a job...big whoop. I quit more jobs in a year...than he had in his life so far

He has sucessfully made a fool of himself as a blog puppet.....

I do like reading about others success stories...shoemoney is a particular read I enjoy. However that is where my interest lie...I love the aspects of being an entrepreneur and enjoy reading the success of those type people....there are a few here at DP as a matter of fact who I enjoy reading of their accomplishments...

I expect on a search marketing blog there to be information about...search marketing....(the whole relevancy thing tossed back in Googles face) and if I want to read about someones cat or vacation I will Google search for someone who keeps to the issues at hand....

Last time I read a travel blog the individual did not go off on a tangent over search marketing :D

    Peace

In my particular niche, google has as 5 of the top 10 results (for my particular keyword) old out dated, unuseful, ugly sites. The reason for this.. honestly not sure. I just started marketing these sites in june so i'm hoping to start nosing out the competition soon. The second highest ranking site in google is a site i doubt has been updated since the year 2000.. This site has old content, and old links. Apparently google thinks this is better then my sites that have been online for around 4 years, with 6 times the amount of content (updated monthly). Then again.. old domains seem to be everything with google.

As for yahoo being slow.. pah, my latest site ranked top ten in yahoo for its main keyphrase in less then a month.

Yahoo has won the Search Engine Quality Report competition twice in a row.

The competition measures which search engine returns the best results for web searchers, not for web site owners.

Yeah, yahoo is better for searchers than owners, although I get more search results from google usually.

BTW, why is yahoo ranked #1 on alexa? I thought most techies (people with alexa toolbar) used google.

probably because of yahoo mail, news, etc. which a lot of people use.
I use google to search but use yahoo to read news, check email, etc.

I don't particularly bother with Yahoo as the discrepancies between it and google are too vast! I would have to create pages specifically for it and I simply don't have the time! Also, I am not convinced that UK users use Yahoo much anyway - though of course I am probably completely wrong!
