Yahoo got started way before Google was started, so what you do think happened to Yahoo? Why did yahoo fall behind google? Is Google just too competitive or Yahoo just complacent?
I have thought about this as well. Personally I think it is because Yahoo was too "diversified" instead of focusing just on "search" and thier algo. And I think Google is hurting now with a lot of people because of the exact same thing. Too many irons in the fire. But thats just my 2 cents-
I feel that Google was much simpler and easy to use, it was just a search engine. It was also something new, exciting and fresh. I remember that when I first made the move from yahoo to google it was simply because google got me what I wanted, the results were more relevant.
yahoo has so many thing need to focus on and google has only one and that is the search engine. but noe google is a big company, it dont take publisher seriouly, just disable your account for no reason. and yahoo on the other hand, YPN doesn't reply the application. so, i guess one day msn will come up with a msn publisher network and defeat both google and yahoo.
Yahoo is definitely too complacent and I think was caught with its pants down in the early 2000s. Like the other people above said, they stopped focusing on the engine, it's core product. Even nowadays the yahoo search engine is a very lazy animal, comparatively. Google finds more information and indexes it much faster.
That's because yahoo! stopped focusing on its search - but instead focused on its portal (its content), but if they were to work on their search engine some more - faster indexing and such, then perhaps; they'll give Google a run for their money.
Yahoo was into everything while Google concentrate on making their search engine the best. When Google achieve dominance in that area, they use this advantage to venture out to areas where Yahoo was in and beat them to a pulp. Moral of the story, you try to be good in everything, you end up being good at nothing.
Ya, Yahoo should of tried to stay on top of their core product first - and then launch the other products after the first product was set to go, and ready, and full of innovation, but they failed at that.
Yahoo is still the No1 internet property worldwide and yahoo.com is the most visited website on earth
Right on....the OP has no clue what they are speaking about... A little research would have gone a long way in helping to prevent looking silly.......
sorry, but I think everyone knows google is way ahead of yahoo. especially if you are a webmaster, like most of us are here, you would be using google far more than yahoo. google's net worth is more than just twice the yahoo. And most importantly, like many said here, google search results are far more accurate.
Well as a search engine google may be better but thats where things end. Yahoo # 1 traffic site. Google # 4...... Yahoo earns better profit % than Google. (This gets into the business aspect of P & L / General Ledger which few online understand) Yahoo users are on the site for 30 minutes or more. Google users are on the site for about 6 minutes now up 2 minutes from 4 almost two years ago. Google is the most spammed search engine online and often produces terrible results for advertisers within the organic side. Anyone who relies on a search engine to build their business should keep a bankruptcy lawyer on retainer.... Long term business is built by advertising across many different channels.
I believe as a percentage it is. Google spends a lot to make a lot Yahoo spends a little to make a lot
Yahoo had a chance to kill off google when google was a yahoo based search engine besides that, Yahoo.com's homepage is a bit like 1 second longer then Google when loading on my browser and if i had 56k dial up or slower internet then that 1 second could be mins what my point is that yahoo stuffs its front page with too much bs..
I really don't think Google has a better search engine than Yahoo. They deliver similar, if not identical results. The only difference is in the amount of content they cram on 1 page at a time!! Who wants to spend half an hour reading Yahoo's front page? I think Yahoo would do well to strip their homepage down and separate the content into different parts of their site. Content on demand and only on demand! I don't want to see loads of content if I just want to make a search.
Google loads faster, looks simpler, dishes out better results and doesn't spam ads in your face...that's why I've never used anything else
