Why would this site disappear?

I have been managing a site ( http://www.poissonrouge.co.uk ) for about five months now.

After steadily climbing up the rankings in Yahoo (UK) it finally reached the first page (7th) last week on "Team Building Events" and was second page on "corporate team building events".

However on sunday it fell right out of the top 1000 results and i have no idea why. It has not been benned because if i search for "Poisson Rouge" (the company name) it appears top.

Anyone got idea why this would happen? I'd appreciate any advise. I haven't done any major changes or updates, just link building and directory registrations. The site is on the first page of msn.co.uk and has been climbing Google although still a fair way down

So far, almost all sites that have this problem shows Site Status as Not Active when I checked at whois. Normal sites will show Active as site status

I really do not know if it is one of the reason. You got to wait for experts to come by and help. Any chance your site was offline during those 5 mth?

    I don't use the coop.

The site hasn't been down at all to my knowledge and i've been accessing it very frequently during the time i've managed it.

The only thing i've done (forgot about it) is register with this site http://www.direct-link-ads.com/ about one month ago. They had a free startup program and place ads on the sites below. I don't think that IBL's can do that sort of damage though (or can they?). If so i've got several competitor sites i'd like to register ;)

Yahoo is VERY good at picking up false linking patterns. have you checked if those sites are in the Y! index? If they are banned, and they are the only links you have then that may well be what has happened. Have you cross linked from any of your other sites? Y! is good at picking up crosslinking as well.

Just took a glance, and Hidden text on your front page says 'links' big no no even if it is one word, ESPECIALLY as that word is to a links page. I am guessing you have backlinks from those sites on that there links page. So in the eyes of the search algo you have hidden a link on your main page to a page that links out to sites that link back to your main page. WHY? is the only question you should ask yourself.

There is also virtually no content on the page which is going to make life hard for you. Personally I would change the links text to site map and resources in white text, point it to the links page, but include at the top a link to each page together with a brief explanation of the content of that page. Good for you, good for visitors, good for the search engines.

    Thanks for that OWG.

I'd forgotten about that hidden links. We have a graphical link to the same links page on the home page so i'm not using underhand tactics although, i appreciate, that the SE's may not view it that way. Up until about four months ago the site used gotlinks.com but the gotlinks software wouldn't recognise the links button at the top so we put an extra hidden one that it would.

I'll take it off now as i cancelled the gotlinks in order to build more relevant links.

I'll check the other things you mentioned,. Cheers.
