Why would people want to own a youtube script?

I've been seeing similar scripts being sold over and over and over again and I can't help but wonder, why would everyone want to own a youtube script? Do they think that running a youtube website will bring them the same success as youtube.com? I, for one, think that it takes a lot more than just a script to achieve what youtube has achieved today.

    What do you think?

If you explain better what it is possible to do with a youtube script, I might be able to reply for you.

    "running a youtube website"

You mean running a youtube clone (like myspace video service is) or running Ajax whatever... site with embedded youtube.com videos & ratings and stuff?

    Same success?

Most likely not, but big problem with youtube.com is that there's so big amount of garbage. Smaller sites might be able harvesting something "interesting" out of youtube.com huge video archive.

While doing this... = users and street credibility = clicks for ads.

If that's the case, maybe they could duplicate the success partially. But I'm getting the feeling that people are cloning youtube without understanding why it's so successful. Hence, I do worry for those clone sites.

I think it's a common misconception that you need to be as succesful as youTube to be successful in the arena youtube is such a success in. YouTube is not a niche site, it's the walmart of video hosting. To think that only youTube could be successful at this is silly if not foolish altogether.

Adult dating websites, search engines, gaming review sites, video arcades, music video websites... the list goes on and on. These are all niche's where you will find a very prominent leader, yet there are hundreds, sometimes thousands of smaller, niche-within-a-niche sites that do very, very well.

The biggest problem is from a logistical standpoint. I don't think a lot of people take into consideration the kind of processing power and bandwidth these sites need. I'm not going to plug FlickScript (oops), but I have already solved this problem and then some.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking though projectw3.

There are a few really succesfull video sites like youtube. When you search something there, you will realize that some videos are constantly repeated and that is because they cover so many areas and interests and have so many videos uploaded that they just cant check them all.

Maybe someone buys the youtube script and make it a "cars youtube" so that people can share cars, racing, launches etc...videos. You could also buy it to make a "celebrities video site", "tech video site" or anything really.

So i dont think that everyone wants to make an exact copy of youtube but maybe check the weekness youtube has and try to compete with it by doing a specific youtube.

I'm just posting this for general discussion. You made some pretty good points there greg. If someone starts a niche site that uses a youtube script but have given considerable thought about the resources required (bandwidth, servers, etc) to make it work, then I would agree that it's a good project.

The problem is, there are also many such youtube "copycats". Take a look at those arcade sites. Many are built without given much thought to quality, marketing, etc. Without enough planning and thought, many are doomed for failure from day 1. Just felt that it's a waste of resources. It'd be great to see more thought going into those youtube type sites.
