Why Would Number Of Ads Decrease Quickly

Had something rather strange happen and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what's going on.

I was using a keyword for over a year that got a lot of traffic, but had a lot of competition -- six or seven pages of ads on Adwords. The keyword wasn't converting real well and I was running a little short on funds, so I paused it for a month.

Today I made some changes to my ads and enabled the keyword again and, to my surprise, there are now only three ads total. I am promoting a Clickbank book and when I paused the keyword, there were tons of others promoting the same book with the same keyword -- now there's none. The author of the book isn't even advertising under the keyword and she's been in the number one spot for probably over a year. I'm still making sales on the book, so I know it's still active. (The keyword isn't the actual name of the book.)

I'm a little concerned that maybe something has happened that I'm not aware of. Any ideas why everyone would stop using this keyword so suddenly? (I checked MSN and everyone still seems to be advertising there.)

    Thanks

Do you have anything else running such as any type of web spy, Brad Callens PPc webspy, or anything similar will distort the number ads running from time to time. If you reload the page several times it normally fixes it.

No, I don't have anything like that running. Something else that changed -- when I paused the keyword, I was having to pay 15 to 20 cents a click to be in the number six or seven spot -- now I'm only having to pay five cents to be in the number one spot. I paused the keyword because I'm a little nervous about the whole thing. I sent an e-mail to the publisher of the book to see if she can provide me with any insight.

    Thanks
