Why would Google index a Twitter sub-domain?

I was doing some research on a very active forum user over at DealerRefresh.com and I chose to do a Google search for his Twitter username in which the search results displayed his profile on the it.twitter.com sub-domain as you can see in this screenshot below:

When I try to do a Google search for anyone else's username Google will display the root domain twitter.com as it should, however if I visit anyone's username while on the it.twitter.com domain then I just see the same page as I would on the main site.

    My questions:

    1) How and why would Google index the it.twitter.com sub-domain for this user and no one else?

    2) What is the it.twitter.com sub-domain for in the first place?

This is just a curiosity post. Thanks for your help!
