What do you mean "good results"?

In what terms are you referring to good results -- design, backlinks, usability, code validation...?

It is my understanding that the links in posts are followed and it is the comment links that are automatically no-followed

Google advises sites that allow users to generate content to use nofollow. Hence why wordpress nofollows comment links.

I see no extra rewards for those that keep the nofollow or remove it.

The thing is you can receive traffic but you can't increase pagerank or have better ranking in search engine. Visit shoemoney.com if you want more info.

If you can't control the content, specifically the links, then of course they should be nofollowed. You are who you link to.

The amount of **** that people post for the nofollow links, i delete them all.. all irrelevant and so on. I'd imagine everyone else does also. You should look into 'Do-follow blogs' if you are scrounging for links.

Nofollow only needs to be used on paid advertising and user generated content link blog comments. Otherwise there's no need to worry about it.
