Why won't users sign up to www.swapezy.com?

    Hi Guys,

I need some words of wisdom about why no one is signing up to my site. I do see that a lot of users around 500 on a daily basis browse my site but not a single person signs up. Any ideas what the reason could be?

    Thanks in advance,

    Rez

The objective of the site is not clear, and the layout looks relatively desorganized

500 visitors is totally different from 500 users. Please don't confuse users with visitors. Visitors could have ended up on your site in any one way, while users are there because they desire your service and want to use it. Since no one signs up, I bet you only have visitors, not real users.

one of the main reasons could be because your categories only show a maximum of one item, so there's nothing to swap on your site from a potential customers point of view.

You need to find a way to add more items to your categories, explain briefly what the site is and the benefits of joining and then add a visible (join / sign up).

First you need to address the amount of items in the categories and get some targeted traffic!

    All the best

Yeah you are completely right. Let me add something. Let your visitors sign up using Facebook Connect or Twitter Connect.

give a CLEAR description aboutr your site, make the logo clearer, took me 5 minutes to work it out... maybe add about 100 of your own items, search engine traffic would be wonderful for this site, i would be interested in the site if it had more people, maybe force people to sign up to view the items, or give bonuses for signing up... few things to take into consideration. good site, change the logo possibly :)

This is pretty much exactly what I was going to say.

If I land on your web site you don't give any indication of how it works or why I should sign up. I navigated to one of the items you have listed, and instead of an indication of how to set up a swap (which is what I was expecting) , the button says "Buy". I click that button and it asks me to log in. I go to the registration page and it doesn't have any explanation of how the site works either. I click the "About" tab and it still doesn't clearly explain how it works - it keeps mentioning "swaps" when there doesn't actually seem to be a way to swap anything.

If you want people to sign up, you need to have an easy to find clear explanation of what they are signing up for and how your site works. The best place is on the front page of your site. It doesn't have to be (shouldn't be) a page of text - instead a nice graphical representation would do it. And it should make clear why it's advantageous for me to sign up on your site rather than posting my stuff on Craigslist or other classifieds site.

And even after you do that, you still need to make your site to appear active before other people sign up. At the moment your site only lists a few items, all apparently added by you. Why would I post my stuff if it doesn't look like anyone one else is going to see it.

If I were you, I would sign up all my friends and family and get them to start using the site. Give them some kind of incentive if you have to, but at the least it will look like your site is active. They will also be able to give you feedback about how the site works for them. And if you can't convince your friends to use the site, consider why you think strangers would want to use it.
